“ Brand: Homebase / Type: Box „
I purchased this from Homebase as it was on special offer and I can't resist them. I thought it would come in handy in the porch area for shoes and other bits and bobs they would inevitably get thrown in there.
It came in one box which wasn't overly heavy and of course was flat packed ready for assembly. Upon opening the box, there are about 50 pieces and instructions which were fairly good. One thing that surprised me was the amount of pieces, I must admit I expected the sides to be pre assembled and it be a "slatted effect" but you have to assemble all the slats in the frame - it doesn't come ready done.
If there was one thing I could recommend to anyone assembling this, it would be to use and electric screwdriver or you would be blistered by the end of it. There are a lot of screws over 72, and whilst it does say to use a handheld one, even with my electric one it took over an hour to do. That was the only downside was how long it took to assemble.
The finished product itself looks really nice, some of the slats are a bit rough but I put those to the back so the front on show looks really smooth. The pine is a nice colour too so the choice is there should you want to paint it or keep the natural effect. What I did was leave it as it was but bought a piece of foam, cut it to the size of the lid, and stapled a piece of fabric over it to make a seat. In my porch it's ideal as its somewhere I can sit when putting on my shoes, or waiting for someone to pick me up. I plan on buying another one which i will paint in white and then decorate for a toy box. The size is brilliant and really holds alot. Its Height is 52cm, Width 79cm and depth is 42cm, so it really is quite big,
I know it retails for £32.99 but I managed to get it on offer for £25 and it was one if their 10% days so for the use I get out of it, it really was a good buy.
Would I recommend this? yes I would, once you get past the problems with the time consuming assembly, it's a good sturdy piece of storage
I bought this box a few years ago for putting "stuff" in a safe place without spending a fortune as I was walking in home-base I instantly decided that this box would be sufficient for my needs as it was simple and felt long lasting.
Like most furniture these days it comes in a flat package for easy transportation and storage. I like this ass you do not have to carry a heavy and relatively large box in the back of the car. The assembly of this product did not take that much time as the instruction manual was clear and simple to understand and all the components came together easily without too much of a hassle. I can honestly say this box assembly is a one person job.
The quality of the wood is quite impressive as I have put just about anything in the box through out the years without any problems. The wood also seems to quite water resistant as I have spilt stuff over it a couple of times without finding any damage to the condition of the wood. I also like the fact that it is very easy to clean thanks to its simple box shape with no fancy shapes and curves.
The dimensions of this box is 42mm x 79mm x 42mm according to the box it came in. And to be honest this is more than enough to fit most things such as kids toys and larger books that are not suitable for putting on book shelves.
Overall, this is a great box for simple use throughout the house. I would definitely recommend to anyone especially people with children who have a lot of toys as this box only costs £20.
I bought this storage box a good few years ago and although it does state it is not to be used as a toy box??? It has stood the test of time and is still being used as such.
I bought this from my local Homebase and although it was flat packed it was quite heavy to carry home. It came in a brown cardboard box, securely closed and I couldn't hear any parts falling about inside. I got the box home and after unwrapping it and looking at the instructions, counted and laid out all the parts, nothing was missing which was good, nothing seemed to be broken or damaged either. It said on the instructions that I would need screwdriver, I should have used electric screwdriver as the amount of screws you have to use is just silly.
The instructions are quite basic and not very clear but I managed to assemble the box in an ok time for a woman on her own with no help. The box is very sturdy and a good size, it measures 52cm x 79cm x 42cm with a lift up lid. This box has been used in both my daughters and my son bedroom over the years and it is still holding out strong. The wooden slates that make up the lid could do with sanding a little as they can be a bit rough but the screws sit flush with the sides, no getting scraped by them which is a great idea, especially when it is used in a child's bedroom. The lid and top can take a fair amount of weight as well as the box itself; my sons toy box has numerous boxes of videos and DVDs on top and its fine. I paid £19.99 for this a good few years ago and it had stood the test of time, I know you can get similar boxes from Argos although unsure of the price, if they are as good as this one, they get a thumbs up from me.
A few weeks ago I finished decorating a plain pine storage box to go in my sons bedroom for him to use as a toy box when he's older, until then it will just be used for general storage. The box I bought was the Heavy Duty Pine Chest which I got from my local Homebase.
The pine chest came as a lot things do flat packed in a plain brown cardboard box, although not very big it was quite heavy to lift. When we opened the box all the pieces were neatly packed and nothing was damaged, another problem that can occur with flat pack. Apart from tools everything you need to make up the chest is included in the box along with instructions, unfortunately this, in my opinion is where flat pack can become a problem. The instructions for the chest were one page that consisted of a list of parts that are included and a vague diagram, it was one of the worst I've seen, however the chest is straight forward and we had no problem putting it together. The lid is attached one side with a gold chain so you can just lift the lid without having to take it right off.
We had the pine chest together in an afternoon and the only tools needed were a small screwdriver. All the fittings we needed were there and there were no damaged pieces of wood or anything missing.
Once made up the pine storage pine chest measures 52,cm's high 89cm's long and 42cm's deep so its a good size. Its nice and strong too, it actually feels like a sturdy piece of furniture and if you wanted to put cushions on the top it could easily be used as a little seat.
If natural pine is not your style the box can be stained, varnished or painted to fit in with your scheme, Personally I pained mine to match my sons bedroom and added some foam numbers and shapes to give it a nursery look. I've been pleased with the box and am currently using it as storage for bed linen but when Jayden's older it will be his toy box. I've just left the inside plain at the moment but I'm planning to line it with cute nursery material in time.
One small issue I had with the box was the finish on the ends of some of the pine slats, they were quite rough and sharp, not ideal if its going to be used by a child, these did need rubbing down with sandpaper to smooth them, this aside though I'm very pleased with the box and it looks a nice piece of furniture in Jayden's room although the box would look nice in any room in the home and add some valuable storage space which is always welcome.
We paid £26.99 for our Heavy Duty Pine Chest and in my opinion it was worth it. I would have given it 5 stars but as some of the wood needed rubbing down and the instructions were particularly bad I'm going to give it 4 Dooyoo stars.
