Replacing your kitchen is a huge expense & the choices available are mindboggling, so where do you begin. Having an idea on the style helps, followed by endless trips around the various kitchen oulets collecting a vast array of brochures. Top tip, don't rush it & don't be talked into anything.

I collected all the brochures, took them home & decided on the style, that was the easy part! Measuring up was a nightmare, none of the standard ranges seemed to offer the exact comination to suit my gally shaped kitchen. I finally settled on a Hygena kitchen from MFI. Trying to get an assistant to give me the time of day was a nightmare. I finally left the store in disgust & costed the thing myself, so much for their customer service.

Having reached a figure of £3,000 to include a new tumble drier I then saw an advert for Kitchens Direct who send a salesman round. I booked an appointment thinking the cost would be overwhelming.

Salesman arrived promptly with his fancy brochures & plenty of samples of the different surfaces. Thinking the price would be way out I went over the top & asked for a new dishwasher, microwave, oven & hob, & sink gobbler thing.

He designed me a kitchen that involved moving the dishwasher & washing machine to the other side of the kitchen But fitted exactly, I thought this quote will be through the roof.

I could not believe the price quoted, bearing in mind they were to fit it & all the extra appliances their quote came out at £3,300!

The units all came on the day stated & so did the workmen who fitted the entire kitchen in 4 days, gave me extras, cleared up properly & worked like demons.

Moral of the story, sometimes fitting a kitchen yourself does not save money & is certainly far more hassle.
