Advantages: Cheap, easy to build, nice range of colours, great use of space.

Disadvantages: Has to be fixed to the wall or it has a tendency to lean.

This media tower can be used for either dvds or cds and the shelves can be adjusted to ensure the best use of space. This is yet another example of the fab value for money and simple stylish design which Ikea are so well known for. This item costs £18 and comes flat packed, you should be aware that due to the height of the unit the flat pack is quite long and you need room in your car enough to fit it in - the height is actually 202cm, just over two metres and I was glad we had taken my brother in laws car when we picked these up as I think I would have struggled to fit them in my KA and close the boot!

Anyway, the other measurements are 20cm width and 17cm depth so it is long and thin. I like this because it takes up minimal floor space and therefore is a great solution to storing lots of DVDs or CDs (or a mix of the two) in a very economical way. It will store 180 CDs or 88 DVDs but I use it only for CDs as I have so many.

This piece matches the Billy bookcase range which we also have two different units from, it therefore comes in the same shades, these being birch veneer, oak veneer, black, black-brown and white. We have the oak veneer in our living room across all the bits we have so that they match.

Assembly requires both a cross head and a flat head screwdriver and a hammer and the instructions (as ever with Ikea) are very straightforward to follow. The instructions do indicate that this item should be fixed to the wall and this is true unless you have incredibly steady floorboards. We found that unfixed it leans away from the wall in quite a worrying way and this is my only small issue with it because it means that you do not have total flexibility where you can put it and it can't subsequently be moved around easily.

Other than this I think it is a great storage solution for media and looks great to boot.

Summary: A great value piece from Ikea and very stylish looking media storage.
