Advantages: Good value, good construction

Disadvantages: price rise likely in July

I was reminded about writing a bookshelf review on the awy home last night when I heard the latest MP row was about paying £7,000 for a couple of bookcases - I just said to my husband that he should have gone to IKEA!!

We have lots of books in our house, and lots of games, which all need putting somewhere. IKEA seems to be one of the few shops that realises families do have lots of stuff and need places to put it all.

The Billy bookcase is very versatile so you can mix and match it to fit the space you have. The heights of the bookcase vary from about 1m to just over 2m, then if you want you can add a bit more on top of that. We also have the corner addition in the range so that it uses the space in the corner more fully.

The other thing a I love about this bookcase range is that you can buy doors to fit if you want and these can either be glass or wood so you really can have lots of variation in your room. You can also have colors such as blue or white or a range of wood finishes. The price of the book case varies on the size and finish but generally the 2m high bookcase costs around £35. This price will change in July when the new book is published and I think the prices are likely to rise sharply if the addendum to prices that came with the IKEA family book last week is anything to go by.

Ease to assemble
=============
We had no problems assembling our furniture and most of the tools needed are included. I would say that you need two people if you are assembling the larger cupboards.

These cupboards have served us well over the last 5 years and show minimal signs of wear and tear - but the shelves are still all straight - which considering the weight of books on some of the shelves is no mean feat.

Summary: Buy now before the price goes up

We had these in our old house - I well recall trying to assemble them with my impatient husband...I ended up telling him I'd do it myself - LOL!
