Advantages: versatile and plenty of space saving ideas and units
Disadvantages: have to be a bit DIY orientated to fit it
Well we are on our 2nd Ikea kitchen! not because the first one was bad! we installed one at our old house and then had to move I was gutted to leave it behind - all that hard work and I loved it the storage is amazing! That was 4years ago. When we moved I was really disappointed with the units in the new house, there wasn't near enough storage and I knew with Ikea I could get more. So we sold the kitchen at the new house in the paper and off we went and bought another Ikea kitchen and have just recently finished it.
The first time round we had a small kitchen so space saving was essential to get the maximum amount of space.
I do think you need to be committed to time to design your kitchen with Ikea, I used the planning tool, downloadable online. I tried a few different ways to see which one seemed to give the most space.
So our first kitchen was Nexus Birch, lovely nice flat fronts so no dust collects in little grooves. We also had 92cm high wall units which are fab, they go all the way up to the ceiling so instead of storing stuff ontop it's still high up but inside the cupboard it looks clean and tidy. We had the corner carousell admittedly this was not brilliant it collapsed after a while but I noticed when looking at kitchens this time they have changed the design and it looks better - unfortunatley we had no corners in our new house kitchen otherwise I would have had one! We had the stone effect black work top which is brilliant it doesn't show up the dirt, the other thing about their work tops is that they come in 3 different lengths making it easier to measure and cut without wasting lots of worktop.
Admittedly my hubby is very good at DIY so whilst he was at work I would put together the units and then he would put them on the wall when he got home! It was a little stressful at the time but looking back you can do it just they way you want to, when you come across a problem with something you can sort it out yourselves rather than come home to find some installer has botched something!!
The 2nd time round we ordered the Adel Beech effect units, admittedly we had a little more problems with wrong items but each time I went back they were helpful and sorted the problems out and I also got the car park refunded (Coventry has a paying carpark). Again we had the stone effect black worktop and were pleased with it.
It's a fab kitchen all round, we also treated ourselves to Door and drawer dampners this time - they are fab!! no more banging doors or drawers they just close gently.
The other thing I like is you can choose your door handles and in future if we want a change we could just change the door handles!
Oh and the other thing I like is the fact that the drawers go all the way back to the back of the base unit in other words they pull out further but more storage and also they're quite deep and very easy to put together.
The main units are very easy to put together.
Summary: I love it it's fab
