Advantages: Very versatile, easy to put together for DIY beginners

Disadvantages: May need to be careful as has a glass top

I had gone for a wander round my local IKEA in the search for a small table to put my TV on at the end of my bed. I saw this one on my way round and knew it was perfect instantly. I purchased it in store for only £19.56, but I know it is available from the online store too for the same price (plus any shipping costs).

Designed by Cecilia Stööp for IKEA, this side table is 60cm tall and has a diameter of 49cm when assembled. The main part of the body, the legs, and the lower shelf are all made of steel with a black coating. It has a tempered glass table top and a separate shelf below, which I use for putting my DVD player on. The lower shelf was the design feature that really drew me to this table - it's not a solid shelf, it's formed of flower outline designs - and it's gorgeous!

As everyone who has been to IKEA knows, most of their furniture comes in self-assembly packs. The table was very easy to assemble; I'm hopeless at DIY and even I could do it. It came in various pieces - four legs, shelf, and table top - with a bag of screws and a 'key' for turning the screws. I believe there were also some sticky pads in the box to help fix the table top securely to the brackets at the top of the legs and the table top frame. It took no longer than fifteen minutes to put together in total.

I've had it for approximately six months now and I'm very happy with it. It's a nice height, it's attractive, and it's easy to clean with a damp cloth. I'm finding it extremely difficult to think of any negative aspects to this table, but I suppose you may want to avoid glass top tables if you have young kids. However, on the IKEA website, they have stated that the glass will break into small pieces rather than sharp fragments, which is better I suppose.

I'd highly recommend this side table to anyone looking for a versatile, reasonably priced piece of furniture.

Summary: Great little table - would recommend it
