Ikea Lack Side Table
Advantages: Lots of colour choices!
I have recently moved and needed two tables to house my fishtank and my hamster cage. Money is tight at the moment as I am on maternity leave so I was looking for a bargain.
After wandering around Ikea in Cardiff I came across these Lack side tables. They come in several different colours, you can get block colours of red, black, white, light blue and yellow which cost £5.10 and they also offer a walnut effect, black-brown, oak effect and walnut effect for a little more at £7.14.
I picked a white and a black version up. The product comes flat packed, the measurement of the flattened product are;
Width : 55 cm
Height : 5 cm
Length : 75 cm
Weight : 3.9 kg
It matches other Lack products in the Ikea range too so you can co-ordinate your furniture.
The product description;
Top: particleboard, fibreboard, ABS plastic, printed and embossed acrylic paint, clear acrylic lacquer
Filling material: paper
Leg: particleboard, fibreboard, foil.
As stated above the product comes flat packed as with everything in Ikea, if you've never been to Ikea before you simply pick up an order sheet and a pencil and make a note of the product and the isle that it can be found in. At the end of the store you just pick the product up from the isle and pay for it.
I am not the greatest at DIY, but I found this product very simple to construct. You only need a screwdriver and it does recommend a hammer although I didn't use it. The instructions were clear to follow and there were plenty of pictures which is ideal for a DIY novice like myself. It took me about 15 minutes to construct one.
Once the side table is constructed the measurements are;
Length: 55 cm
Width: 55 cm
Height: 45 cm
Max. load: 25 kg
The first advantage of these tables are that they are lightweight, you can easily move them from room to room. I used the black one to hold my fish tank which is a glass tank that holds 35 litres of water. The table feels sturdy and supports the weight of this item really well. I used the white table for my Rotastak hamster cage which is only light but the surface area of the table holds the whole cage which is a rather big item.
These tables are easy to clean you simply use a damp cloth. They have a shiny finish and look more expensive than they are. It's only when you pick them up or look close you realise that they are not solid wood.
I would give these tables 5 out of 5 at the end of the day they are really cheap, come in lots of colours and do the job. I have recommended these to lots of my friends, they would also be great for students on a budget.
Summary: A great value table that can be used for several purposes!
