Advantages: Cheap, durable, hardwearing and lots of colour choices

Disadvantages: Corners quite sharp

I love trips to Ikea and picking up bargains, one item which we purchased around 4 years ago was a Lack side table for my daughter to use as an arts/craft table.

I paid around £6 but the table actually retails now for £8, it is available online and in store and you can actually check stock availability online so as not to have a wasted journey. It comes in a variety of colours; birch, black, brown, green, oak and white, there are also high-gloss colours of red, grey and white. We choose the red one as this fitted in with the colour scheme of Laurens playroom.

The table comes flat packed and assembly was really easy, the instructions are very simple and it took my partner less than 5 minutes to attach the 4 legs. Once assembled, the table measures around 55cm (length) x 55cm (width) x 45cm (height). I found the height is really good, we had the table when Lauren was around a year old and it wasn't too high and she can still sit comfortably at it now. The table weights around 4kg so it is really easy to move around, yet despite this, the table does feel really sturdy.

In the Lack range, you can also purchase a variety of shelves, TV stands with or without castors and coffee tables.

Overall, I would recommend the table, after 4 years of use, it is wearing very well, the table is used daily and none of the laminate has started to lift or split (which is great considering the amount of water and fluid which have been split on it). We choose one of the glossy colour options; it has lost its glossiness slightly however I would expect this due to the amount of times it gets 'wiped down'.

The only downside for me is that the edges are quite 'pointed', when Lauren was younger, I was constantly worried she may trip and catch herself on one of the corners. However the product isn't advertised as a childrens table, we just chose to use it as one so I wouldn't knock any stars off for this and still give 5 out of 5 stars.

Thanks for reading.

Summary: A good value table available in a variety of colours for a decent price and it is very hard wearing.
