~*~*~ Ikea Lack Side Table ~*~*~
I live quite a distance from my nearest Ikea store more to the shame as I love it there! However I have been a few times and twice I have bought one of these Lack side tables. I have also picked one up in a local second hand furniture store and one in a car boot sale!
~ What is it? ~
This is a small lightweight side table from the Lack series by Ikea. It comes flat packed as you would expect with an Ikea product but assesmbly is very straight forward and simple.
~ Why did I buy it? ~
I bought the first one as I wanted a table to go in the corner for a lamp to sit on, when I went to Ikea and spotted these I knew it was the right item for me. The price is what sold it to me and I am sure it was around the £5 mark for a light coloured wood effect table. The second time I bought one for the sake of it if I am honest, I had no where in mind to put it but for the price I couldn't resist and the third one I bought was red in colour and I picked this up in a second hand furniture store for the bargain price of £2, I also bought one in a carboot sale for my mum for £1.50 as she had said she liked mine.
~ Any good? ~
I think so, yes.
The tables require a simple self assembly of screwing the screws into the legs and then screwing the legs into the table, on the underside of the table are four metal hole into which you screw the legs, this makes it really secure.
~ The Look ~
It has a nice chunky solid look to it, it looks modern and stylish.
The table has a height of 45cm and a width and length of 55cm. It looks like a heavy item but it is really lightweight and easy to move around.
It's available in a range of colours to suit your decor!
~ Overall ~
I have to say that having bought three wood effect tables and a red coloured table I do think that the coloured ones look more expensive and trendy.
The wood effect ones are nice enough and don't look particularly cheap and nasty but the coloured ones have a more dramatic effect and look nicer as they have a nice sheen to them. I put the red one in my sons room as a bedside table and it looked so good. I mainly bought it because it was a bargain and the only room with any red in it at the time was my sons room so it turned out really well.
During a house move one of my tables didn't survive and the leg must have caught on something in the van as when it was removed the whole bottom wood effect bit came away and the wooden section where the leg was directly under ripped away too.
When you first hold the table it becomes apparent that the table top is hollow, there isn't really much to them so I would never recommend standing on them or even sitting on them!
They are a brilliant size and they do look nice but they are a little flimsy. I also noticed that after cleaning the one table numerous times the edges started to warp a little but for the very low price I paid I don't think it's something to complain about. I would estimate that it was about 8 months or so before I noticed the above so not too bad and my son would use it to eat his dinner in front of the telly!
~ Price & Availability ~
