Ikea Lack Side Table
Advantages: sturdy, a good size, versatile, price, easy to put together
Disadvantages: not overly stylish
I will admit that I have yet to step foot in Ikea (we don't drive and my fiance fears for his bank balance). My Mother In Law visited Ikea a few years ago and came home with four Ikea Lack Side Tables - two for herself and two for us. She figured they would look good in our livingroom. They have been well used since we received them.
~Lack Side Table~
This side table is available in different colours including Oak, green, high gloss white, high gloss red and a few other colours. The price you pay varies depending on which colour/finish you choose. We have two of the regular black tables. There are other products in the Lack range including shelves and coffee tables.
This table requires a small amount of assembly. All you need to do is screw the four legs into the underside of the table and you are good to go. The table measures 55 x 55 x 45cm and weighs 4.8kg. It can hold up to 25kg in weight. This side table is made from various materials including fibreboard, ABS plastic, particleboard and foil to name a few. Full details are available from www.ikea.co.uk.
~Price and Availability~
The Lack Side Table is available from www.ikea.co.uk and instore. The cheapest colours include white, black and green which are priced at £5.00 per table. The gloss finished tables are priced at £10.00. The most expensive option is the Love Multicolour table which is £15.00.
When it comes to furniture in my livingroom, I like to keep it simple. My livingroom is black and white so the black tables would fit in perfectly. I hate building up any sort of furniture but putting each table together is a very quick and simple process and I didn't need any assistance. The legs of the table feel very solid and are thick. Each leg has a screw at the top which simply twists into place on the underside of the table top. Once all four legs have been secured in place, the table feels sturdy. Removing the legs to store this table or transport it is a very simple process.
Despite being mega cheap, the Ikea Lack Side Table is of a surprisingly high quality. The simple design is likely to fit in with any size, shape or decor of livingroom (or any other room for that matter). This side table is a good size and the matt black finish allows it to blend in to any room. The size makes this side table ideal for slotting in beside a chair or sofa. The table does have nice, smooth finish and the table top is quite deep which gives me confidence that it won't collapse under pressure.
The Ikea Lack Side Table is very practical in use. Our main use has been for sitting a lamp, the house phone or some magazines on it. When my son is in bed at night, I sometimes place some little tealight or votive holders on one of our tables and they have experienced any mark or damage. The tables remain durable when I have placed heavy boxes on them. The table I have at the side of my sofa is just the right height to place a glass of juice on but I would recommend a coaster if sitting a hot drink down on this table. There is plenty of room underneath the table to store things including books, toys etc.
My Mother In Law did end up giving us her two tables too so we have ended up with four tables in the same design. We opted to use the spare two tables in the toy room for doing craft activities. They are just the right height for my son and nephew to sit at with the plastic chairs and draw or make things. I don't worry so much about these two tables becoming damaged as my Mother In Law has damaged them a little with hot drink rings!
These tables are very lightweight and practical to move around. They have came in handy for when we are having a party and need space to put the buffet. They aren't the best height for adults to reach the buffet to be fair but we don't have a dining table or anything so these had to do. They do attract dust very easily but a quick wipe down leaves them very clean. I would recommend drying them off with a towel or dry cloth as they look very streaky when wiped over.
For a fiver these little side tables are an absolutely bargain price. We have a new glass side table in our livingroom so have dismantled two of the tables and put them in the cupboard until we need them for my sons birthday party in May. The two tables in the toy room are still used and are in great condition. I wouldn't say that the tables would remain in perfect condition if something heavy was dropped on it but for regular, day to day use they are ideal.
Thanks for reading :)
