Advantages: Excellent choice within the range, value for money, easy to put together

Disadvantages: Some less every day items slightly more expensive

After recently discovering I was pregnant, my husband and I took a few trips to Ikea and other furniture stores, trying to find a nice set of furniture for the new nursery. We wanted it to be cheap, yet sturdy, and hopefully something a growing child wouldn't mind still having in their bedroom in 10 years time!

After umming and ahhing, we decided on the Leksvik Ikea range. My father in law already has a few sets of free standing bookshelves in this range, and they have lasted many years - and look fab. The pieces already built in Ikea looked lovely, and the range even overlapped from 'adult' furniture into the nursery range - the cot being only £75!!

The cot was just that - a cot, not a cot bed that many people prefer to have. But it has a two level base (ideal for new borns and older babies), and the side can also be removed to make it an almost-cot-bed (ideal for a young toddler). Plus we noticed that Ikea also have 'growing beds' (where the bed grows with the child) in this range, for just £99! Definitely an option for the future. Plus, this range has been around for so long already, based on it's popularity, I can't see it being discontinued any time soon.

The cot was relatively easy to put together. The base was a little difficult due to the mechanism which allows you to position the base in one of the two pre-defined heights, but now it's set up, we won't have any problems in the future.

We also bought the wardrobe and shelving unit with base cupboard. Both were very simple to put together until we got to the doors - trying to get them to line up and close properly was a nightmare - although to be fair, this would be the same with ANY flat packed wardrobe or cupboard!

The last few pieces we bought were the chest of 4 drawers, treasure chest and wall shelf. These were all reasonably simple to put together. The instructions were clear, even down to the technicalities of the clever lid of the treasure chest - designed in a way where it's impossible to trap your fingers. Ideal for a little one. Granted, probably due to this clever mechanism, the treasure chest was probably the only piece out of the ones we bought from the Leksvik range that was a little over priced (£69!), but hey.

Overall, a beautiful looking set, seems very sturdy (most pieces had brackets or straps which you could use to secure to a wall if required), mostly simple to put together, and should suit our child for many years. We'd definitely buy more items in this range.

A tip given directly from Ikea - keep your alan keys, and tighten your furniture up every now and again. It doesn't hurt!

Summary: Beautiful range that would suit almost any room in the house! And it lasts! Ask my father in law....

tanyatigerlily - they are a lovely range, and have heard a few other pregnant ladies deciding to go for the same range too - much cheaper than brands such as Mamas & Papas or Mothercare!
