Ikea Malm Chest: 2 Drawers
Advantages: Really good value, easy to assemble and looks good
Like nearly everyone I personally know half my house has been furnished by Ikea. I guess it is pretty easy to understand why as Ikea is literally half the price that other shops charge for things like bedroom furniture but in my opinion it is just as good a quality as furniture that is double the price.
Other than my bed all my other furniture in my bedroom is from Ikea. My chest of drawers and my bedside cabinets are from the Malm range. My bedside cabinets are actually just two sets of drawers but they are the perfect size to fit beside my bed on either side and I actually wanted drawers because I need all the storage room that I can get.
The dimensions of the drawers is 40x55cm and I think that they are a really good size for being next to the bed as I can be in bed and put a cup of coffee beside me or a glass of water and easily reach it without having to stretch over. The tops of the drawers are roomy enough for a bedside lamp each and still leave me enough room to be able to put other things down such as cups and glasses and my kindle when I have finished reading for the night.
The two drawers are spacious and I am actually using them to store more clothes in them as they are big enough to be able to fit t-shirts and smaller items of clothing in them such as underwear and socks and even some thin jumpers.
The drawers are really smooth to open and they won't come out if you open them too vigorously as they just stop when they reach a certain point and you need to actually lift the drawers slightly to get them out of the base.
I found that assembling these drawers was simple and even though I am not normally very good at assembling things I found these to be fairly straightforward and the instructions were clean and concise and everything was included for fitting them together.
These drawers come in a variety of different colours but I have brown-black as I have really light walls and I wanted something that would contrast with the walls and really stand out. I think these look very contemporary and the colour of them is really striking against the light colour of my walls. I like the clean lines of them and the fact that there are no handles to take away these lines. Instead there is a recessed area just behind the drawers to be able to pull them out.
I really cannot fault these drawers as they look great and are easy to assemble. They are also really cheap at only £35 each which I think is such a good price as they really look and feel more expensive than that. Flat pack from Ikea gets a bad rep but I think that if it is assembled correctly then it is much sturdier and better quality than you might think and will last for ages.
