Malm chest of drawers
Having recently decorated my two boy's bedrooms, I wanted some cheap but hardy chest of drawers. The drawers needed to be quite robust as my boys can really put furniture through its paces. I looked all over for them and found these in ikea. I was pretty convinced by the ones that were assembled in the shop but I know my DIY skills are pretty poor to say the least. I decided that at £45 the quality was fantastic and the drawers were of a nice size. Sometimes the drawers are just too small and end up being over filled, then ultimately breaking. These are great, and one of my better buys. The drawers took around an hour to an hour and a half to assemble but a more proficient DIY-er could cut this in half with ease. They come complete with the tools required excepting a screwdriver and instructions which are relatively easy to comprehend, which is an advantage for someone like myself. The chest when completed is surprisingly sturdy considering it was I who assembled it...lol!
The basic principle for assembly is special screw which slides into a readymade holes and then secured by tightening a small disc which is inserted into the side. The principle makes assemble quick and simple but also makes the finished product secure and safe.
The sizes of the drawers are surprising they are:
Width: 80 cm
Depth: 48 cm
Height: 100 cm
This makes the drawers wonderfully spacious and they are very strong, they can hold quite a lot of weight without the base bowing which in my experience is a miracle. The other bonus is the lack of physical handles but rather there is a lip on the top of the draw. This makes it perfect for smaller rooms or children's rooms where catching handles can be an issue. The laminated coating is slightly glazed making polishing easy and also giving a very smart and sophisticated finish to any room. It has a large top which is also capable of withholding fairly heavy weights without weakening the overall unit. My oldest son had a nineteen inch TV and Xbox placed on his and I'm confident of the safety of both.
There is a choice of colours and styles available and they are oak, black/brown, birch, a white stained oak and then the white finish which is what I opted for. The white option is cheaper. The options include a small bedside three draw unit, a bed and dressing table. You can kit out an entire bedroom very elegantly and cheaply.
I am very pleased with these units and would definitely recommend them to anyone
Summary: A cheap and smart unit
