Ikea Malm Chest of Drawers
Advantages: cheap, range of colours
Disadvantages: a bit plain
I have one of these Ikea Malm 3 drawer chests in white in the bathroom. I use it to store towels, spare toiletries and various bits and bobs that you always accumulate in the bathroom.
The Malm range comes in 5 different colours; white, black-brown, birch veneer, oak veneer and white stained oak. The price for this 3 drawer chest is £35.00 for the white version, and £55.00 for all of the other colours. The size of this 3 drawer chest is 80cm wide, 48cm deep and 78cm high.
I bought the white one as I just wanted a clean and simple look in the bathroom. This is just a very basic, very simple, very plain chest of drawers. I have however jazzed it up a bit by adding some fancy drawer handles. It doesn't come with any drawer handles, you just pull the drawers open by the lip on the top. The handles were easy enough to add, my husband just measured the locations and then drilled some holes right through the drawers for me, and we then attached the fancy handles that I bought. This makes a huge difference to the chest of drawers, it has gone from being something fairly plain, and obviously from Ikea, to something really quite funky, and something that people always ask me where I bought it from.
I was a little bit worried initially that the wood might warp from the moisture in the bathroom, however we have had it in there for about a year now, and it is still perfectly fine. As it is just coated 'wood' anyway it works well in the bathroom, as you just wipe it over with a damp cloth to clean it anyway.
It was easy enough to put together, it took us around an hour. It does take a little while as there are the drawers to assemble and the cabinet and it does come in lots of pieces! The tools you will need are a cross head and a flat head screwdriver and a hammer.
For the price we paid, just £35.00, I think that this is brilliant value for money.
