Advantages: Mine has lasted a long time, not too expensive, attractive.
Disadvantages: Plastic covering is beginning to peel on my bed.
Love it, I have had this bed for a long time, and it has lasted well. It is much larger than similiar loft beds in terms of both height (being very high up and close to the ceiling) as well as width, because there is a "trough" next to the actual bed for one to put snacks, watches, alarm clocks - whatever.
First thing I would say, is take your time when it comes to erecting this bed frame. It is very large, and the pieces are very heavy, meaning that erection is especially difficult in a small bedroom such as mine. It took a number of hours to finally get it up, but it was worth it, because the floor space in my little room now available for other furniture is fantastic.
If the bed is moved away from the wall, it does have a tendancy to start "rocking" which I think probably reduces the logevity of it. Therefore I recommend making sure it is right up against the wall if at all possible. Also, make sure you keep the trough clean, because before you realise it, it will be full of crumbs, dust and rubbish. I invested in a Black & Decker dustbuster which is screwed on to the bed, and lets me regularly clean the trough with little hassel.
One draw back to this bed as I have found out, is that the plastic laminate that covers the particle board used in it's construction begins to peel after a while. I am not sure if that is anything to do with something in the air of my house, I would suggest that it will be the same wherever this bed is, and the first place where the peeling begins is on either of the two end bits to the ladder, near the entrance to actual sleeping part.
The bed is exceptionally large, and it will probably be necessary to arrange for it to be delivered, unless you have a particularly large car. As far as matresses are concerned, I opted for two of the Ikea basic thin mattresses, and when these are doubled up, it makes for a very comfortable night's sleep. I also opted for a double duvet set, even though the bed is a single, and find that I can sleep next to a big lump of duvet, whilst still being on the duvet as a result of this, so it may be an idea for some?
Not a bad bed for a youngster, though I can see how eventually, scaling it would become a bit of a chore.
Summary: I would recommend this bed, it has done me proud for a few years.
