Advantages: Very Cheap, Nice Material, Easy to Assemble
Disadvantages: Funny Positioned Holes, Small Holes, Unsure About Weight Limits
While shopping in Ikea for household furniture items, we spotted this Ikea PS Fangst hanging toy storage net in the kids section and just had to get it for the grandson's duck collection. He has hundreds of the darn cuddly things, and many end up scattered around his bedroom floor! For only £3.05, we snapped up one of these hanging storage solutions to put said ducks in and get them off the floor.
You can get one of these nets in a choice of green, pink or blue, and they come as a standard size. They're all 168cm tall and 29cm wide, with six compartments each. They have a velcro tab at the top which needs to be hung from the ceiling on a hook (not included). We hung our net up using a cup holder that cost about 10p from a Wickes multipack which was already kicking around in my tool box.
This was really easy to mount, I just screwed my hook into the ceiling in the grandson's room - and hung this up. That was it! No assembly was required, the items comes 'flat packed' but the net material simply needs pulling apart when you open the packet, there is nothing else to do besides hang it up.
I was a bit dubious about how much weight this would hold at first, and what yours can hold will depend on how strong the hook fixing in your ceiling is I guess. With our little screwed in hook, we have so far not had a problem with storing soft toys in here. If you want to use this for clothes or heavier toys, you'll probably need to think about using a more appropriate hook (check your local DIY store for options).
For every day use, this has been handy but I do definitely have one or two issues with it. For starters, the holes in each storage compartment are quite slim, and we can only get small soft toys into these. The net material will stretch a little, but this is only good for small toys mostly. Also, they've located the various compartment holes in all different locations. This would have been much easier if they'd put the holes all down one side so you didn't have to turn it around (and risk unscrewing it from the ceiling!) every time you want to get something in or out.
So far this has been really reliable for us. The screw has stayed put, and the storage compartments have retained their shape fairly well even with the contents weight dragging the whole thing down a little. I would have preferred it if the holes were slightly bigger (perhaps mounted higher up in each compartment so the toys don't just fall out!) and I don't like the random locations of these holes, but other than that, I'm fairly pleased with this. For just over £3, I have to give it four stars I think. You're not going to get a much cheaper soft toy storage solution for your kids bedroom are you?!
