Advantages: Retain their shape well after each use
Disadvantages: Smaller and narrower than standard pillows, too thick for my tastes
Dooyoo must have cost me a small fortune over the last few years, as I read so many glowing reviews that lead me straight out to buy said product! Such was the case with these 'Rebound' pillows made by John Cotton. Having read how these pillows were thick, comfortable and kept their shape well, I immediately set about buying a pack.
The first difficulty that I encountered was actually finding these pillows for sale anywhere. My local Morrisons store didn't have any in stock when I initially looked. I also struggled to find any stockists online, with the John Cotton website proving to be rather unhelpful and pretty vague when it came to listing any official stockists. It is not possible to order these pillows directly from the manufacturers online either which was also a bit disappointing and inconvenient. I eventually managed to track these down in a Tesco store but felt the £20 asked there for a pair of pillows seemed pretty expensive. Fortunately, Morrisons restocked and I was able to pick up some packs of pillows for just £5 (for a set of two) from there, which seemed an absolute bargain particularly considering the Tesco price.
After all the effort trying to track these pillows down, I was looking forward to finally getting a good night's sleep on my lovely new pillows. The promised 'rebound' feature is pretty accurate as the pillows really do retain their shape after a night's use and simply bounce back to their former position each morning. This is excellent as I have found that even more expensive pillows from established brands tend to lose their shape and become flattened after regular use, meaning they need to be replaced more frequently. These could almost pass for new pillows!
Sadly, these have proven to be a bit of a disappointment in other ways. My main issue is the size and shape of the pillows. Once I removed the pillows from the packaging, they seemed almost misshapen as they had been packed very tightly inside their plastic wrapping. It may be down to their 'rebound' qualities, but I've never quite managed to get the pillows to reshape into a comfortable position. I also find that the pillows are slightly smaller and narrower than standard sized pillows. These means that they don't fit particularly well into standard sized pillowcases which looks a little scruffy and they aren't quite as comfortable for me to sleep on.
The final issue is that I find the pillows to be too thick for my personal taste. I usually sleep on two pillows but find that these pillows are so thick that two is uncomfortable but not quite thick enough to allow me to use just a single pillow. I've had to solve this by continuing to use an old, flattened pillow underneath one of these John Cotton ones, which just about brings me up to a comfortable position.
This may well be down to personal taste as my other half manages with two of these pillows without complaining - and he's not averse to complaining, believe me- but these pillows really don't seem to suit me and my sleeping habits.
The main advantages are that they genuinely do keep their size and shape, even after several months of regular use now. The polyester filling and the cotton covering all seem to be made from quality materials, with no sign of any wear and tear. The pillows are even machine washable, at 40 degrees, although I haven't attempted to machine wash mine yet, having had disappointing results with other supposedly machine washable pillows in the past.
Fortunately these pillows were very inexpensive, once I managed to find them instore, but I'm unlikely to buy these again as they just don't suit me. If you can find these for a similar low selling price, it might be worth buying a pack but I can't wholeheartedly recommend them for a comfortable night's sleep based on my own experiences.
