      Very helpful

      Strongly recommended luxury, if the price is right

      Our reclining chair is, without doubt, one of the biggest and best purchases we've ever made online. It's almost too comfortable, if that's possible. We've had it for nearly five years now and it's still going strong - which is not bad considering how popular it is in our household and how much use it's had!

      The previous recliner that we bought from a major furniture warehouse was a big disappointment. It was ok for a while but very soon showed signs of wear and tear. The fabric soon became threadbare in places and the reclining mechanism clearly wasn't too robust. Maybe we should have known better as the leather armchair it replaced was equally short-lived and came from the same store, though admittedly not such an expensive item. By comparison, the La-z-Boy has been a great success and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a great relaxing chair in which to unwind after work - or any time really.

      I should probably stress, before going on, that this in no way endorses a sedentary lifestyle! It's all a question of balance, though I have actually read some claims that recliners might help with certain medical conditions.

      ~~A great use of space~~

      Having found this product on the web, I was a bit hesitant about ordering such a large item online. But there was in fact no problem with delivery or assembly, as it happened. It came in two parts which proved manageable. We ordered it from Recliner World but it's now available from Recliners Direct. This chair is actually quite compact for a recliner (Height: 106 cm, Width: 86 cm), which was one of our concerns, space always being at a premium and bearing in mind how tempting it is to stretch out...

      ~~Quality construction and durability~~

      I understand the La-z-Boy mechanism is well-established as one of the best and now carries a 10 year warranty, which probably speaks for itself. It certainly seems durable. The only problem we've experienced with the mechanism was when it became a bit 'sticky' after 2 or 3 years. I soon put that right with a drop of oil and it was immediately back to its original smooth operation using the lever on the right-hand-side!

      The quality of the leather is far superior to some we've had in the past, too. So far, no obvious signs of wear at all.

      ~~Value for money?~~

      All in all, this has been an excellent purchase and has proven its worth over several years now! It probably is worth paying for a quality recliner, but at £599 now the price has certainly gone up over the years and this might be more difficult to justify. We paid less than that at the time, as I recall. While I wouldn't be without it now, I might be inclined to look for substantial sales discounts.

      * Quality construction and durability
      * Extremely comfortable

      * None, except perhaps price and competition from others sitting there first

      5 star luxury!

      Strongly recommended, if the price is right. Just don't become too lazy -- make sure you stay awake for that film ... and don't forget fresh air and exercise are good too!

      Since composing the original review on which this (my 50th here) is based, I've noticed several variations on this manual product, including sofas, electrical risers and high versions. These may also be of interest, e.g. for those with mobility issues.
