I can't remember what my room looks like without my lava lamp! It gives any room a much needed hit of bright fluorescent colour, with attractive contemporary styling and swirling, interesting patterns from the 'lava' making it a truely mesmorising little ornament. I opted for a Mathmos lava lamp, which I think personally is the only way to go. It is styled like a rocket, complete with three legged stand, acting as stabilising wings. A lava lamp really will brighten up any room and is available in a whole host of bright, eye-catching colours. I have owned mine for around 6 years now, and It is still going strong and have at no point needed to replaced the glass ... Read the complete review

••TURN OUT THE LIGHTS•• Now that is much better - At this moment in time, the tone and setting is perfectly poised for me to switch on my lava lamps. A dim to dark room is the ideal background to show off these elegant motion lamps in action - only then can you really appreciate them in full bloom. Made out of wax and high quality oils the lava lamp when switched on will illuminate a glass container and then gradually discharge brightly coloured wax droplets causing them to rise & fall. I have a craze and passion for devices or gadgets that not only look good but also glow and light up in a dark room. The lava lamp is one such device that fit’s the ... Read the complete review

My family I suspect like every other has a room or rooms in the house which rarely get used, and as a result they end up cluttered with the things we rarely use or have used and no longer have space for. Today for some reason I decided to have a sort out of the things in there which I no longer want or need, and came across my sisters old lava lamp. It consists of three parts a solid base, which contains the light bulb and the electroniky bits, a glass 'bubble' which contains coloured wax and a blueish looking liquid, and a metal 'cap' which covers the screw top on the bubble - I assume so you can change the water in it if it gets too dirty. The ... Read the complete review

Ever light a candle, then stare for hours as the hot wax slowly melts and drips down the side, in lovely, creamy white lumps? I'm sure you have, go on, admit it! Picture it, now. Imagine the little drips, racing each other down the smooth sides of the candle body. Sometimes they narrowly escape collision, and reach the base alone. Can you hear them cheer, those little drips? And how about when they do collide, and they merge slowly into one, fat, juicy droplet? The screams of those unfortunate fellows certainly follow me into my dreams at night! It's all a race see, with candles. I see the flame on top as the Olympic torch, and the melted wax ... Read the complete review

Lava Lamps were all the rage last year weren't they? And though they're still seen in a few 'trendy' shops they're not quite as popular. I confess to having bought one in that mad period - and now it is a permanent feature of my room. Unfortunately, it's basically a permanently 'off' feature of my room. For those of you who don't know how a Lava Lamp works, basically a light at the bottom of the bottle heats up wax which rises to the top of the liquid before cooling and falling down. Fine. Only wax takes a while to heat up. In fact from cold, you'll be lucky to see the pretty blobs within 2 hours. And that's a ... Read the complete review
