Advantages: Very soothing, cheap to run
Disadvantages: Very very delicate
Magic ball plasma light Available in various sizes, this mains powered fascinating lamp is a wonder to behold. It consists of a large glass globe situated on top of a black plastic base, which, when turned on emits pink strands from the silver central globe inside the glass. The strands follow your hands when they are placed on the glass and move around when you do. Costing anything from £20 to £100, they are an interesting addition to any lounge. I bought my husband a plasma head many years ago before we had children, and at some time over the last 11 years we have managed to "misplace" it.So, I bought an 8 inch diameter plasma ball whilst I was visiting Birmingham a few weeks ago. In this case, there was a choice of three sizes, 4 inch(Very small), 6 inch,(Bit better)and 8 inch(Just lovely). I was able to buy ours for a fraction of the standard selling price as I bought several, but nevertheless, it was still under £35. My husband was delighted, and proudly placed it amongst our collection of lamps. Our small children are absolutely fascinated with it, and even the youngest 10 months is mesmorised by the enchanting lights. An additional feature of the light is that there is an audio position on the three way switch, which allows the lamp to respond to sound and is fantastic to music as it pulsates with the bass. I believe that they are gas filled, and when they break they make a hell of a pop. On the underneath of the lamp base is a small recess which is designed to secure the lamp to prevent accidental breakage. They are powered with a small mains adaptor which makes them fairly safe electricity wise, and economical to run. However, on the downside these are very very fragile, and do not bounce!!!!! Unfortunately ours was knocked off the shelf a couple of days ago:-(, but I intend to replace it very soon. They are really lovely, but if you buy one, do take the time to screw it dow
n to whatever you can, the larger they are the easier they appear to topple. I highly reccomend them.
