Advantages: It looked good when it was first built

Disadvantages: Flimsy, drawers fell apart

When we did up my daughters bedroom some kind of tallboy seemed like a good idea. By combining the wardrobe and chest of drawers we would save space which is at a premium in our house. After looking around we decided on the Malibu 2 door 3 drawer wardrobe from Argos but I've also seen it for sale in focus. Obviously for the price of £74.99 we werent expecting the best wardrobe in the world but hoped for something that would at least do its job.

The wardrobe arrived, it came in several very heavy packages that we needed to lug upstairs before building it. Building the main body of the wardrobe itself was fairly easy as was nailing on the flimsy back. The drawers were a nightmare to put together and the doors were pretty difficult to hang but eventually it was built.

The first problem is the drawers. The bottoms of them are exceptionally flimsy hardboard type material and even though they only held light clothes soon fell apart. The second problem is that the plastic runners are such terrible quality that the drawers soon struggled to run along them and started falling off them.

The second problem is the general build quality. The wardrobe became pretty wobbly after only a short time of using it, even after tightening the screws. I think the hanging rail is the only thing holding it together.

The third problem is the tiny flimsy metallic handles on the doors and drawers. It is pretty hard to get a grip on them and they kept loosening and unscrewing themselves.

Overall this has been a very poor buy. The one good thing is that it looked fairly good when it first went up. I wouldnt recomend this wardrobe to anybody, it is flimsy and the drawers fell to pieces in record time. The only thing this wardrobe is good for now is firewood.

Summary: Dont Buy It!!

I was looking at buying just the bedside tables but, if they are as flimsy as the wardrobe I am not sure I should bother! x

I was forced to buy an IKEA wardrobe against my better judgement a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a breeze to assemble and very sturdy and I realised by preconceptions were very wrong.

Thanks for the warning!

This sounds like the flimsy chest of drawers I bought from Argos years ago at around £40. Even if they are still going, the finish on them is pathetic and it wont be long before I chuck them out completely if the bottom on one of the drawers slip out again.
