Advantages: none
Disadvantages: still waiting
Ah the pleasures of newfound cohabitation: give and take, yours is mine, joint decisions. For me, John Lewis is a one-stop shop. I would happily buy all of my household wares there. For the other half....well maybe it's just asserting his independence, or maybe he really can get the same thing elsewhere for cheaper. So we investigated the goods at MFI and I had to admit they looked alright on the shop floor. In the spirit of compromise, we ordered one wardrobe from my spiritual home, and one from his new find.
John Lewis delivered within 2 weeks and on the date and time specified. MFI took six weeks to deliver......and they brought the wrong wardrobe. By the time we realised this, it was half unpacked and assembled (I was away that weekend, other half didn't notice that it was about a foot thinner than it ought to be)
It took quite a lot of time (on hold, redirected to different numbers, etc) and effort to get MFI to admit to their error. Eventually they offered another delivery date, several weeks later. So we waited (I had my wardrobe, other half's clothes in wrinkly piles here and there)
Second delivery, the proper wardrobe arrived. Without doors. We were told they were currently not in stock and would be delivered later. About a month later.
Third delivery date came and went. Although we had contacted MFI a few days prior and they had ensured us the doors were available and on their way, we spent the whole day waiting for nothing. And no phone call on the day or the following one to explain or apologise. When MFI were contacted (once more on hold, "we'll call you back", chased repeatedly), their staff indicated it was yet again out of stock. But could assure us it would be in stock and on our doorstep in another month's time.
Anyone keeping count? It's about 18 weeks post-purchase (and payment) now. Fourth delivery failed exactly the same way as the third one did. Again we were told it was in stock and en route, again nothing on the day - not even a phone call warning us not to waste time waiting.
So this is my cautionary tale - do not buy from MFI. It even rhymes so it's easy to remember.
Summary: Worst experience I've ever had buying furniture
