Advantages: none whatsoever
Disadvantages: slow delivery, damaged goods, poor customer service
I'm afraid my experience of MFI fully lives up to their reputation for poor goods and service. My soon-to-be husband and I spent almost £1000 on bedroom furniture in August. This was planned to be our dream bedroom, to last us for years, etc etc. When the furniture finally arrived, we discovered a number of missing and damaged parts. As the furniture was not delivered all at once, and as we assembled it item by item, each discovery of something not right had to be accompanied by a call to the customer disservice helpline. I never waited on hold here for less than 30 minutes, sometimes much longer. At one stage, I asked for a small fixing piece to be mailed to my work address so that it would not get lost. Unbeknown to me, MFI then changed my delivery address for everything to my work address - 60 miles from my home. I only discovered this having taken a day off work to await delivery of a heavy chest of drawers, only for it to arrive at the office - for me to lift into and out of my car, carry to the car park etc. The final straw has been how they have dealt with my complaint. The final piece I am waiting for is a drawer wrap, which arrived broken. I waited 6 weeks for a replacement, which also arrived broken. At this point, I lost my cool somewhat and wrote a letter to MFI head office detailing the problems I have had and requesting some action. I was called back by a very polite lady who promised me a £50 "goodwill gesture" and a courier who would arrive at a designated time with the missing piece. I was happy with this...until the courier never showed up! A call to head office saw me on hold again, further calls to the main switchboard established that I was not permitted to talk to anyone who might actually be able to help me. I sent a fax requesting someone call me back urgently, this went unanswered. The courier is now 12 days late, and I am still waiting to hear from MFI. Meanwhile, I have some very expensive but
poor quality furniture with a gaping hole where a drawer should be. I am still waiting to hear from MFI, but stated in my last letter that if I did not receive the missing piece by the end of this week, I would request them to remove the furniture and refund me in full. I really would suggest to anyone making a large furniture purchase to pay the extra for ready assembled furniture from a company that takes some pride in its work. MFI have certainly disappointed me, and lived up to their reputation for shoddy goods and service.

sidneygee - 06.12.01 We bought £900 worth of bedroom stuff from them in 1996 for the daughter'[s flat. We collected it all, and had no problems except one broken handle. I went to the showroom, and the salesman 'removed' one from the model on display.
Sounds as if they have deteriorated ... |
