Advantages: cheap

Disadvantages: you get what you pay for

Yes, it seems so tempting - buy some cheap DIY snap-it-together bookshelves, and that will solve all your problems.

But there are flaws with this plan. What goes together easily can also come apart easily. The "wood" itself is chipboard, a reconstituted material made of wood-chippings from timber-mills. Naturally, under any real stress or tension it will come apart.

The main problem with the bookshelves is that they cannot take the weight of a lot of books or magazines. Admittedly, magazines are worse - they can fill a greater amount of space than books, so the weight factor is therefore much larger. The best option is to put magazines only on the lower shelves, and save the upper ones for the books.
