I wonder if any one can tell if the solid oak doors of a MFI kitchen can be fitted to other manufacturers cabinets.I'm told that each manufacturers specs are designed purely to fit their own products and are not interchagable. Is this tru?Your comments on this will be very useful thank you

have had enough of people slagging of staff of MFI, sure enough you get good and bad everywhere, my wife for example, ex mfi assitant manager, contracted to work 40 hours per week, actually worked 50+ (other hours without pay,) main reason, to try to sort out the mistakes that the distribution centre kept on making, i.e missing items, missed deliveries, you know the main problems everone here has quite rightly complained about, what upsets me is people always blame the staff that they can see, most of the problems were from deliveries, either missing or broken items, the store staff to a certain extent had their hands tied as to what they could do at that stage. just remember not all mfi staff were bad staff, people like my missus did care and i know by christ from my own experience she tried hard for the customers. ENOUGH SAID!

Have bought an MFI kitchen on eBay. Looks in great condition but am concerned about some of the reviews I have read. Mostly the reviews are about after sales service, items missing from order etc. I wonder if anyone could tell me what they think about the actual units once in situ. Mine is an oak style shaker.

Bought an MFI kitchen in 2005. Cost £7,500. Appalling workmanship - veneers began parting company with the woodchip doors after 13 months, but because we had not taken out an insurance policy to cover the doors, MFI was not interested. My advice - go somewhere else!

Words cannot express the anger mfi have made me feel they are totally incompetent, its no wonder they are in administration oops they dont tell you that when you order something, they are quick enough to take your money but dont want to know when the order does'nt arrive and as for customer service centre staff i just hope that when they find themselfs out of work very soon that no respectful employer will entertain them when they find out they worked for mfi and were crap at their job. thanks for nothing mfi have given up waiting for order your not worth the worry

We chose a kitchen from MFI in Edinburgh. The person was supposed to arrive to take measurements-phoned an hour after the app. time saying that she could not manage. Another person arrived eventually. Took rough measurements. An appointment was made for a builder to arrive and look at a wall to be knocked down. He phoned and cancelled on the day and made an appointment for the following Monday at midday. Never bothered arriving or even phoning to explain. I have never heard from MFI since. The whole experience was C--- and they hadn't even started work yet! They wasted two valuable weeks of my time. I reckon I had a lucky escape. No wonder MFI are struggling

Think twice before ordering anything that requires a delivery deadline

YOU HAVE TO FILL IN AT LEAST ONE STAR TO GET YOUR REVIEW SUBMITTED. I DIDN'T WANT TO FILL IN ANY AND WOULD HAVE GONE FOR MINUS IF I COULD. Had similar problem but with a twist. Ordered kitchen, had delivery date, fixed up fitter, MFI's, come delivery day two items missing, a hob and integrated washing machine. Spent a week phoning and visiting to be told they can't deliver until 3 weeks after the installation date. Fitter 2 days into job, discarded old hob and washing machine, so no cooking or clean clothes on the cards. Asked for refund to buy seperately and guess what, no refund because the hob was part of the special free appliances offer. I vowed 20 years ago never to use MFI again, but I thought they had changed and it was a good offer, but beware!. Chose BOSCH and AEG appliances, then a week later they have stopped using them at MFI, so accepted "own brand" appliances. The MFI fitter is great and is doing a great job, but I too got caught out with the extras for fitting, new consumer unit new sockets etc, totalling £750. Bottom line though it was still cheaper than any other quote we had and I negotiated a further discount on the fitting. Final thing, their delivery conditions state that "time is not of the essence". I suggest that you cross out the "not" and initial it before you commit to the order.

MFI and Mark Two - Absolutley useless, broken delivery dates, broken items on delivery, not getting replacement parts to you when promised. Defects in products - twice! After care and customer service is terrible until you get through to someone with some authority. The original branch not interested once they have taken your money. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE. spend your hard earned cash elsewhere. My problems and defective goods are still being sorted out. Compensation claim to follow - hope that's more successful than the original purchase.

MFI = HELL. We have been battling with MFI after the bathroom furniture they sold us started disintegrating within the first 6 months. They passed us from pillar to post for over a year. Finally they sent out replacements with a fitter, only the fitter didn't have enough time to do the job (and it looked like it would cost a bit more). So guess what? MFI decided it was our fault instead. You see, their bathroom furniture is unfortunately susceptible to "WATER DAMAGE" and we didn't maintain it well enough! Here's the best bit. Head office after we threaten to take it to the furniture ombudsman do a U-turn and say "well we delivered the replacements we should really fit it". So they sent round another fitter, who did them another quote to them, and guess what? They changed their minds again and said no again! Pure evil.

      Save yourself heart/head ache

I have just read all the MFI reviews. I am in the middle of the same delivery problems and the worst after customer sales service I have ever experienced in my life. We have been delivered incorrect units and missing loads of units! I have been to the store twice in 1 day but over 10 visits in total (Croydon store) and promised that my delivery would be sorted in time for my fitter to fit before he is off to another job. Promises I now discover by phoning up the service centre will not be kept. The essential items will not be delivered until 17/9. The Croydon manager (Ben) who I found unbeliveable arrogant could not care less. My fitter has had to go to Howdens to buy units that I have already paid for with MFI, Corinice because they did not order enough, waiting on extractor brackets/chimmney that were left behind ...... I could go on but take the warnings do not buy from professional idots who could not care less once they have banked your money!

      Advantages

Be careful as what you hear and what you see may not be what you get

These reviews are so unbelievable but also so TRUE! Quite simply MFI Head Office does not attain what the salesperson promess. The salespersons are actually very blunt and full of details about the organisation shortcomings after the complaints come back to them. The misrepresentation, the months delays, furniture not fit for purpose, the sluggish and disinterested service, the continuous inconvenience, the stress, the aggravation and loss of earnings suffered by us the customers resulting from MFI callous disorganisation and negligence, the waiting and hoping tomorrow is going to be done, the lack of information, the loss of time, the persistently wrong pieces, the need to wait at home for failed deliveries and the considerable time spent trying to get MFI to complete the supply of units. I am an old age pensioner and suffered personal back injury due to stumbling over and moving MFI bits and pieces of furniture waiting months for MFI deliveries. MFI never managed to comply with their contract. In the end, I had to look and pay carpenters to finish the job which is nowhere near the picture in the brochure, neither as good as the furniture on show and nothing like what I thought I was buying.

Waste of 2 weeks of my life

I am writing to tell you all about the shocking experience we have just been through with MFI. After looking around at all for sometime at various DIY stores (B&Q, IKEA, Wickes) we decided to buy a kitchen from MFI. After 2 visits to the shop we agreed on a design and a price of £7800.00. We came away looking forward to our new kitchen. This is was short lived! We had the fitter/surveyor come around who promptly started changiong the design as he said it didnt fit and then gave us a list of extra work and a bill for an additional £1200!!!! All that the "designer" in the shop could say was that this does happen sometimes. I promptly cancelled the order as no one seemed interested in trying to rectify the problem. My neighbour recommended a company called Belgam Kitchens (www.belgam.co.uk) They have been brilliant. They came and measured up before giving us a price and design. They were slightly cheaper but better quality cabinets by far. All I can say is give these people a try and dont be fooled by the "price" at MFI.

YOU WILL PROBABLY BE LEFT WITH INFERIOR PRODUCT

KITCHEN FROM MFI BURTON ON TRENT - MARCH 2008 - Ordered kitchen - fitter arrived - all okay at first apart from the fitter telling us we would have to pay extra for fitting facing edges as he told us he had not been instructed to fit these. Next problem - Tiles - we paid him separately to remove tiles from the walls - when he did so the walls had bits of plaster continually falling off the wall - he said this was not his problem, it was the fault of the builders who had built the house - so we had to put up with that. A few weeks after completion of fitting the seam on the worksurface got wet and began to lift. Reported it to the store and we were told to contact the fitter direct. Fitter came out after a week looked at the seam and told us that it wasnt his problem - it was due to the worktop being faulty. Contacted the store and they said they would get the fitter to come back and try and fix it - fitter came back and did something underneath the worksurface. A month later the seam of the work surface still lifting - went into the store and actually managed to find the Manager was in the store and spoke to him....he did say how lucky we had been to actually see him !.... he told us he would sort it... he didn't, instead we received a phone call from the Salesman saying they were not going to do anything about it it was our fault and we should not have wet the worksurface. If we wanted to take further steps then suggested we write to the HEAD OFFICE....... hope this helps future customers
