Advantages: the price will be reasonable????
Disadvantages: they all have there own faults
I am a kitchen fitter in the north west, this is not a covert add for myself, only a guide to the mine field that is kitchens. I have been fitting for 20 years, and have fitted for all of the major kitchen firms. they all have there bad faults, but if you do a bit of ground work, looking around asking who makes the kitchen ie homebase get there kitchens from magnets suppliers b+q from a co within there huge group, there are a lot of smaller groups usually within a furniture store that say they make there own. they dont it will usually be from birnstiens b+q. So know what you are about to buy and who from. The best advice would be to get recomendations from friends and relitives, if they like there kitchen and all the stages that you go through to get the finished article, then go with them have the same sales person who designed it and more inportant get the same fitter, if they say no then cancel the fitting and ring the fitter up. You can but the best kitchen out there, you also need the best fitter to fit it. most customers can put up with some items missing for a week or so, as long as the fitting is good.
Tips
moben and kitchens direct( same company) if you like what they offer in the package but it, cancel it the day or two after then they will ring you with up tp 20% off the price you agreed, now the more confident you are,you can do this one more time and will get a further 5% or an appliance off, have a go you have nothing to loose , only 2-4 hours of there sales in your home.
B+Q MFI these are the big 2 dont use b+q worktops they wont last, get your own (resopal, wilsonart, even mfi) the fitting charges with both are high and are due to higher with the new electrical regulations in forse. the fitters dont get anywhere near that price. be cheeky ask the sales staff who is there 2 best fitters as only they will do. either go to them privatly or through the co.
Always go for a good sink and appliances they will look good years on a cheap sink will look good for up to a year then it will loose its shine, and will make the kitchen you paid a lot of money for, look like a budget one.
wickes, there is a wisper high up in the co iam curently working for , that they will be stopping kitchen sales, now the wickes staff dont even know this yet. so dont get there backs up, it just might be oppertunity to get them cheep when and if they go.
MFI furniture on the whole is as good as wickes and magnet, some things are better and others are worse, they are better than b+q and moben/ kitchens direct. mfi have recently changed there hinges to a type b+q have, the fitters complained and will be reverting to the better quality soon.
there worktops are better than most with a big advantage of being 616 deep, this gives a good overhang over the doors and draws. if you choose a thicker door with other retailers they will stand flush with nosing of the worktop, not ideal.
There drawbacks are the tops only come in 3m so if you have long lenghs there will be a straight joint. the carousel units are better without the carousel in them, put a shelve inside instead and there will be 3 times the space.
corian or granite from mfi is very expensive shop around you will save thousands not hundreds. mfi do a worktop called capri which is like the corian, very good product, scratches and stains just sand out and buff up like new. always go for soft closing draws and doors, they are well made and will stand the missuse the kids give them.
enough for now, hope this is of use.
Summary: a good fitter , word of mouth, good appliances, good homework
