Advantages: Looks lovely when it isnt melting
Disadvantages: Looks horrid when it is melting
We were on a budget so we purchased our kitchen units from MFI. We had the kitchen measured by MFI and fitted by a professional. Trouble was, the white unit beside the oven melted!. We had only had it a week!. I was distraught. The door of the unit was next to the oven where the oven door opened and every time you opened the oven, bit by bit the unit melted and the unit cover peeled back and now looks brown and unsightly. I advised MFI of it and they said 'perhaps you shouldnt have put it there'....was it worth me arguing with these sort of people? Was it worth telling him that it was MFI that had designed and measured it? I couldnt be bothered. So being traditionally English, I put up and shut up.

- 07/08/02 I know how you feel. You spend days, weeks, months telephoning, writing letters, complaining, being passed from one department to the next... is it worth it?
The answer is yes. Set yourself a goal. Write your letter to the manager of the store where you purchased your kitchen. In it, tell him the problem, why you are unhappy and what you would like (trading standards and/or your Citizens Advice Bureau will send you all the information on your rights. You would be amazed at how many you have and how far they extend). Also in your letter, state very clearly that you expect he/she to resolve the matter within 14 days. At the bottom of the letter, type cc. Trading Standards, Citizens Advice Bureau and the name of a local solicitor. Send the letter. If you do not get a satisfactory response, send the same letter but this time include the phrase "I expect this matter to be resolved satisfactorily within 14 days and declare my intention to seek redress in the County Court if necessary". Then type cc. and the name of the Trading Standards, CB, solicitor, AND your local newspaper.
It usually makes them sit up and take notice.
And don't forget... being British is not about putting up and shutting up. It's about winning the war.
I hate to say it - but having lived abroad, Britain is the WORST for giving customer satisfaction. Ask yourself why...
Yours, in total support as another dissatisfied MFI customer who took them on and won!! |

- 17/04/02 You don't get anywhere by putting up and shutting up. These people are responsible for the staff they employ and you should have let them see that!!! And it may have been very 'english' to put up and shut up during the war but we are now in the 21st century where big companies are only out for profit and the people that workfor them are only numbers so let them have it with both barrels!!! |
