£300 for MFI nightmare (MFI Kitchen Furniture)

Last January I ordered an MFI kitchen. Value around £4000. The store assistants were very helpful, designing and planning the kitchen. I February the kitchen arrived. The kitchen refit was a major job, from the foundations upwards. Floors rippped up, ceilings lowered, new electrics and plumbing. All these parts went well.

Then came the fitting of the new kitchen. Unit 1, the larder unit housing the fridge freezer. Well, the box number was correct but the fridge freezer did not fit. So, we custom made it fit! It looked great. Then I found out that the fridge freezer which was supposed to be frost free (as the brochure says) is NOT. Its only the freezer that is! This has been corrected in thier latest brochure. The freezer also had a missing shelf, leaving me with a great void in the freezer. I phoned the help desk who were prompt in sending me another shelf, THE WRONG ONE, but a shelf. Well after umpteen phone calls I got my shelf,ONE YEAR later.

The gas hob had a defect which was only noticed after £90 fitting charge.
The wrong colour of pelmets were sent.
Shelves were missing for the display cabinet
Handles were broken.


I have used MFI before but after this kitchen I dont think I will be again.

I got so fed up with the hassle that I eventually Emailed them asking for £300 compensation and GUESS WHAT? It arrived two weeks later.



I hope this is a little warning of things to watch out for...
