Advantages: free design

Disadvantages: expensive

We?ve recently purchased a kitchen from MFI, after taking advantage of their 50% + 20% at the start of the year.

We chose the Monza kitchen, which is a Schreiber kitchen.

I had already measured the kitchen in some detail, and took these with me when we visited the store, however as we discovered we had to make an appointment before we could begin to plan the kitchen.

The kitchen planner, drew up a rough plan based upon our requirements, which she had ready when we returned for our allotted appointment, i noticed that they had try to cram as much as possible into the kitchen design. Most of our session was spent removing items from the plan, and adding space for our own appliances (which we sourced from the net), and sink (also from the net).

The design plan, is rendered in 3D and various aspects are printed off in colour, it is easy at this stage to get over exited. That was our downfall. The design program spews out a list of parts, which looks quite straight forward.

We were asked if we wanted the kitchen fitting. After hearing the price (£900) we declined. Especially as this does not include, pluming, electrical or tiling and we were told that the kitchen units come as 'rigid' units rather than flat packed. All you have to do is mount them on the walls, and put the hinges, doors, handles on, and build any draws (flat packed) if you?re having them.

On the day we were required to pay the balance, our kitchen had changed dramatically. We had had a new set of French doors fitted, and realised that one of the cupboards would impair the path to the back door. This meant removing several items from the list, no problem, and adding a new item, also not a problem. They even honoured the original discount and printed out new plans to reflect the changes (keep hold of these).

The kitchen arrived when they said it would, albeit minus the worktops, they arrived a week late (I didn?t bother ringing them, a
back order form arrived with the order stating they would be dispatched ASAP).

The kitchen arrived in far more parts than we expected, and the driver checked everything off with us. A single item on the list given in the store, can break down into fifteen separate items in reality.

The quality is very good, only one item was marked, and will have to be retuned.

All the parts required to do the job were included, and the only thing we have to find now, is a man (or woman) to butt and scribe the worktops.

On the plus: The store staff have always been very helpful.
On the minus: Their appliances are far too expensive.
If you know a joiner, check your kitchen is not available through Howdens (you get the same kitchen at trade prices).

We would use MFI to buy a kitchen from again.

Hi, I've been looking at the Monza kitchen at MFI. Now that you've lived with it for a while, are you still happy with it? How does the colour look in a real kitchen - is it ivory, or is it yellowish (as it appears to be under the shop's lights)? Does the finish wear well on the doors, or does it scratch or mark easily? I was about to rush out and buy it because their sale ends on Sunday, but after a little internet research it seems that there's always a sale on at MFI !! Any advice greatly appreciated before I plonk down thousands of pounds!! Regards.
