Disadvantages: Everything
I bought a kitchen from MFI in late August last year. Apart from the pushy salesman, I was quite impressed with their products and I thought their prices were good. We ordered a complete kitchen including new oven & hob. We paid our money (about £3000) and waited for our delivery date (late September). We had our own fitters lined up but had been cautious and had not booked them for a fortnight after the delivery (just in case of any minor delivery issues) That?s where the good stuff ends....................... The order turned up and was about 30% incorrect. i.e. one in 3 of the items was wrong. The "very kind" delivery men told my wife "don't worry love, we've checked all of the items for you - it's all correct" I won't bore anybody with the (very long) details, but to summarise: It took - wait for it- 3 months to get the correct products to us. That only happened after about 30 phone calls (I reckon I spent a total of 20 hours on the phone to them), 4 letters (one threatening legal action) and finally telling them that, "unless we get the correct stuff in the next week, we want you to pick up what you've already delivered and a full refund". We probably had 5-6 deliveries in total (of course each one warrants a day off work - "we can't tell you what time we're coming" Their "customer service" is simply the worst I have ever encountered. Never have I encountered a company who are so uninterested in rectifying problems. If I had a pound for every time I heard from MFI "we'll get the pieces too you - but it will be another 4 weeks !" It got to the point where I dreaded having to phone them - because I knew I'd have to do the "I want to speak to your manager" every single time. The really annoying thing was that I was just constantly fobbed off with e
xcuses. For example: "you'll have to wait for that cabinet another month, because it's got to be custom built". My kitchen fitter would then say "but that is a standard MFI 600 MM cupboard - they?ve got 1000's of them in stock" (he used to work for MFI). When I challenged them about things like this, it would then be a case of "oh, sorry, we made a mistake" - and this happened time and time again Calls not returned, head office blaming the branch, the branch blaming head office, I just about heard it all. A regional manager ended up getting involved and they offered to finish fitting out kitchen free of charge (as it was partially fitted by then). But this was 3 months later ! If anybody is thinking of buying MFI - just try calling their customer servies number - see how long you wait. If you do manage to speak to them, could you ask them where my extractor fan is.....(gave up on it)

stevel56 - 29.01.07 I had a kitchen from them. PArts all arrived ok, its just the "approved" fitter was rubbish. He got himself locked out and demanded I return to give him a new set. I said no, as I didn't want to take holiday. He then demanded I meet him 7.30 PM to give him a set so he could get his 17 year old son's car keys. This son must be one of the "experienced professionals with years of experience" MFI promise.
A 5 day job took 9 days as the fitter had personal business to attend to but had no cover. All the extras cost a fortune. Better to go on a web site like gumtree.com and get yourself someone cheaper and better.
Say no to MFI "expert" installation. |
