Advantages: Good name brand, relativly easy to fit, speeds up ironing a bit.

Disadvantages: Cover gets hot, poor fitting instructions.

A few months ago I brought a new Ironing Board (don't I look after myself well?) I chose a Minky one as I had heard good things about them. Then in usual fashion my Iron went crazy, overheated and burnt a big hole in my Ironing board cover. After purchasing a new Iron I continued to use my Ironing Bard with its ugly great burnt patch. That is until the other night when the Husband decided on a midnight walk about the local 24 hour Tesco, I tagged along in the hope of nudging him to make inappropriate purchases due to being tired.

After a wander around the isles and purchasing nothing but a tub of Hagen Daz Cookies & Cream Ice Cream we were heading to the self service tills when the Husband spotted some Ironing Board covers. He then asked me if I needed a new cover as he had spotted the big burnt hole in my other cover, I was slightly amazed that he had noticed what was going on with the Ironing Board as that end of the clothing life cycle is normally of no interest to him. Not wanting to miss my chance I picked up a Minky Metallic Ironing Board Cover.

The cover comes in heat sealed plastic packaging and was of the larger of the two sizes on offer, the cover fits boards up to 125cm in length and 45cm in width. The cover cost less than £5 from Tesco, which is half the price that they are for sale on amazon.co.uk.

The following day I passed the cover to my Husband and asked him to fit it. The process of fitting the cover looked fairly simple, it was a case of pulling the drawstrings that run around the edge of the cover, so that the cover scrunches up a bit. Then hook the rounded end of the cover over the rounded end of the Ironing board, wrap the Ironing Board cover as neatly as you can around the sides of the Ironing Board, trying to keep the flat surface a crease free as possible. Once you are happy with the fit of the cover it needs securing, after attempting to use the little purple key that came with the Ironing Board cover to secure the ends of the drawstring and tighten the cover up we threw it away and tied a few knots to secure the cover tightly to the Ironing Board.

The ironing Board cover fits my Minky Ironing Board quite well, admittedly I think I needed the smaller size but the cover is on neatly and wrinkle free and does not affect the putting up/down mechanism of the Ironing Board.

In use I find the ironing Board cover to be better than my previous cover, despite the cover feeling quite rough my Iron glides over the cover smoothly. I would of like the cover to be more padded as the foam backing feels slightly on the thin side. The metallised fabric works quite well and the creases were easy to remove from the clothes, thanks to heat transference the back of clothes did not seem to need as much ironing as usual. When Ironing the cover stays in place, the cover does get quite hot though so the usual care and attention is needed while Ironing.

All things considered I happily give the Minky Metallic Ironing Board Cover 4 out of 5 stars, deducting only one as I feel the foam backing could be a little thicker and for the poor fitting instructions. If you were to purchase one of these I would recommend buying from Tesco as other places seem to be selling the covers for double the price I paid.

Thank you for reading.

Summary: Its an ironing board cover.
