Minky Ironing Board Cover
Advantages: Fit, quality
Disadvantages: Slightly pricier
When my husband and I moved into our first flat money was a bit tight and instead of buying an ironing board we were donated one by my mother in law. However the cover left a lot to be desired, stained and burned (though in it's defence it was over 30 years old!) so I decided to pep it up with a new ironing board cover.
I was lucky enough to win a £20 voucher for John Lewis and though it isn't normally my first port of call for all things homeware (I find you can get cheaper in places like Argos and Sainsburys as long as you watch the quality) so I invested £14.99 on a Minky Ironing Board Cover.
There are so many different types to choose from, and I went for a fairly plain but attractive designs of pebbles on a white background. The great thing about Minky Ironing Board Covers are that they are fully elasticated around the sides and fit to most ironing boards. But what a fit - it hugs my ironing board like a glove, it looks really nice when it's on and breathed a whole new lease of life into my OAP ironing board!
The Minky Ironing Board Cover though a bit more expensive than say an Argos own brand is really great quality with a thermal backing. It makes ironing so easy, it's thick and smooth and allows for good use of the steam functionality on the iron. Over time (say yearly!) the white backing can get a bit stained from water but the picture on it has never run and luckily you can put the Minky Ironing Board Cover in the washing machine and either radiator or line dry it, when you pop it back on your ironing board it will be as good as new.
I highly recommend the Minky Ironing Board Cover whichever style you go for, yes you can get cheaper ironing board covers but I've tried them and they are thinner and wrinkle up when ironing, the Minky Ironing Board Cover is snug, thick and so very easy to use, which I think makes the slight extra cost totally justifiable because it's so well made. I will happily give it 5 stars out of 5 because almost 9 years (yes 9!) on the Minky Ironing Board Cover is as good as new and we might even get another few decades out of the nearly 40 year old ironing board (that's older than me and my daughter put together!)
A great product, I'll be sure to check out other Minky items if they're all as well made as this. It's even got me shopping in John Lewis more because they sell good quality items which you won't need to re buy and replace.
Summary: Great quality, built to last & cover that old board!
