Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Rip Off , lots of lies, Unprofessional poor fitting , Rude Customer Services

I purchased a kitchen from Kitchens Direct (Mobens sister company) in July 2002. I was told by the salesman it would take 3 days. Not a problem I thought it all sounded so good so I signed on the dotted line and paid £8500. "Britains favourite kitchen company, cut out the middle man save thousands !" he kept saying. Four weeks later the units and applainces were delivered and the surveyor had given the thumbs up. Then the problem started the fitter arrived and checked the inventory and parts were missing but worse still was his workmanship it was awlful. One 21 year old youth with no skill and little care for anyone but getting paid. He took 6 days and after this he disppeared leaving me with a half finished kitchen. I could get my entire hand down the back of the worktop becuase it wasn't scribed to the wall. I had units, worktops in my hallway, lounge and spare room for a year later.
How inconvenient is that when you live in a small flat ??

The area manager visited my property one month later and was rude, arrogant and insulting to both myself and my partner. He told me there was nothing wrong with my kitchen. I wrote to head office (MKD Holdings, Manchester) and followed it with 20 more letters and 20 phone calls. I had very little response and was told the matter was being dealt with when in reality this company had taken my money up front and didn't care. It seemed that all the 'expert team of skilled fitters' had disappeared. The only time they wanted to speak to me was when I issued a notice of legal proceedings against them.

6 months later I took them to court and agreed a settlement so that another firm of reputable fitters could finish my kitchen. It had over 30 faults and remedial list was so extensive it was quicker to pull out the entire kitchen and start again. They said it was one of the worst kitchens they have ever seen.

The process of buying from Kitchens Direct took a total of 1 year and 2
months (so much for the promised 3 day fit !). As well as being insulted on many occassions my partner was subjected to 6 months of nuisance phone calls and abusive langauge. My car was vandalised by the fitter who subsequently had his wages deducted to cover the court costs.

When you have paid a lot of money for a kitchen and you get this level of service it leaves a bitter feeling that you don't forget. At the end of the day I strongly recommend that everyone avoid MKD Holdings (also trades under the names of 'Moben','Dolphin bathrooms' &'Sharp bedrooms').

To make matters worse MKD Holdings legal dept kept threatening to sue me if I took then to court. Their legal dept are very aggressive and used "dirty" tactics.

Once you have paid your money you have very little come back so always buy from a company that allows you to pay the balance of monies on completion & when the satisfaction form has been signed.

I did not know that 'Kitchens Direct' were part of the Moben Group. Thanks for that - a good review, but what a nightmare!

We had a new kitchen fitted by John Lewis. They were not 'fault-free', and took 13 months (!) to complete to even their satisfaction. However, they installed a brand new Miele dishwasher and waived the cost of installation (in total over £3000 not charged for - without much pushing from me) in recognition of their incompetance. Indeed they admitted finding my letter of complaint (enumerating all the problems that they could have avoided by taking more care at the design stage) very useful for training purposes.

I have noted now however (having asked for a quote for my daughter's flat) that they have at least doubled their installation charges!

That simply confirms my suspicions. Thank you, but I'm sorry you had all the hassle. Sue.
