Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Pressure Selling, Over pricing, Annoying Salesman
My parents have been looking around for a new kitchen for a while now, and after seeing the Moben "Sale" adverts on TV decided to go and look at the local showroom. After seeing a kitchen they quite liked the "Showroom Assistant" went into detail about the current offers available. (One of which was a Technik Double stainless steel oven with extractor at £492, but more of this later) They liked the sound of things and booked an appointment, which just so happened to be available that same day at 6:00. The salesman/designer promptly arrived ahead of schedule at 5:50, and proceded to spout his sales patter. Now even though the man had come to talk about kitchens, more often than not he used it as an opportunity to brag off about how good he was, and how many awards he had won for kitchen design. At one point he detailed every holiday he had been on in the past three months, including Las Vegas and New York. He also went on about how he had just purchased two properties in Prague, not bad for a Kitchen Salesman. One other bit of information which my parents didn't need to know in the process of buying a kitchen, was how his sick auntie was giving him over £200,000 in inheritence, surely not standard sales patter? After slagging off every other kitchen brand going and making his product sound like the bees knees, he decided to try and tell my mum what she wanted in her kitchen, not a wise idea for anyone who doesn't know her. She put him straight and explained that surely it's down to what the customer wants, at which point he backed down. He eventually conjured up a price and it was £13,000, at which point mum nearly fell off her chair laughing. They questioned the price, and found the cooker to be £999, when asked he said that it was £500 to fit?? Surely everyone is in the wrong trade, take up cooker fitting!! He said he could knock £2000 off today if they went ahead, mum declined and said than
ks for coming round to do the quote. He answered by saying that when he comes out it is to place an order, not just for a quote, mum responded by saying would he buy something without knowing the cost, to which he really didn't have an answer. They promptly showed him to the door, and went to look at his Rolls Royce, which turned out to be a Mondeo. The point of this review is to make people aware of their pressure selling, and over pricing. Be wary of non-existent offers on appliances, such as the free dishwasher that you end up paying for three times over. Or the cooker that costs as much again to install.
