Advantages: stylish but classic looking, good quality and size, not run of the mill

As one of those people who had a really old, proper wood coffee tables (it became a sanding experiment gone bad!), I didn't fancy going for a completely modern glass type one. I first came across the Nexus range at the sale in Macdonald's furniture (the Glasgow branch don't sell this range anymore), and decided to go for the coffee table and the lamp table in light oak. The range is also available in chestnut. I think the oak looks better in small spaces as it's a lighter colour - the (smokey coloured) glass panel in the middle also helps to give the feeling of space in a room. In my opinion, the table is stylish yet not in a way that will make it ever look outdated.

It is a rectangular shape measuring H41cm x W129cm x D62cm and has stylish slotted joints and a smoky glass insert and was apparently designed by a British designer. It is constructed from mostly oak veneer and some solid oak. The height is about the same as the seat height of my sofas, and the corners of the table are slightly rounded. The legs are not solid; imagine a block of wood with an L shape cut along the length - this is what the legs are shaped like.

It's easy enough to push around a carpeted room and there's plenty of space on it. I've had it for over a year and it still looks as good as new; any tea ring marks have come off with a damp cloth - the glass hasn't been damaged at all either, though I do use coasters and occasionally put a runner over the glass! The only thing I can say about this table that's not positive is that it's painful if you stub your toe on it (as I often do!). Also, it can be annoying sometimes not to be able to place a tray anywhere near the outer edges of the table because of the raised wooden parts on the surface of the table, which means that if you're going to put a few things on it, you have to be careful not to place them over these - I do wish the table had a completely flat surface.

Thankfully, when I bought it, it was a ready assembled display model, so it didn't need to be put together, but I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult.
There are a few places on the internet that sell this, including on ebay - the cheapest seems to be around £105.
