Peppa Pig 6 Storage Bin
Advantages: Flat pack, easy to build, Peppa Pig design will please children, effective storage
Disadvantages: Price a little high
Before we moved house last year, the girls shared an absolutely tiny room where space was limited and we had to be clever with storage. They had bunk beds at the time to try and give them as much floor space to play as possible and while looking for some kind of storage where they could keep their toys but still be able to access them without adult help, I found the Worlds Apart storage solution.
It is a practical storage solution for children, while still being fun. Covered in Peppa Pig designs, I knew it would be a hit, even if it they would outgrow it fairly quickly. The storage system is an open storage space with 6 fabric bins supported by wooden shelves. While the bins are only made from fabric, they aren't flimsy in any way and perfect for toys etc. I would say they are a type of canvas material and easily support the contents. At one point this unit turned into a DVD storage place and would hold around 10 DVDs in each bin. It easily coped with this weight and I didn't feel like it would break in any way.
Easy to build, it does come as a flat pack. I would have been able to manage building this myself and I aren't particularly handy, but as my husband was around he offered, and soon had it built without any issues. It comes complete with screws, so you won't need anything except a screwdriver to build the unit. When building the unit, my husband did mention gluing the unit together as well as screwing it to give us extra confidence that our girls could happily play with it, however this wasn't required and once built is solid.
As the unit comes with 6 bins, it allows the child to sort their toys as they wish and they can categorise in each bin. We had barbies in one, Barbie clothes in another, fruit and veg and shopping pieces in another, etc. I especially liked it for this reason and it makes it so much easier to keep an area tidy and organised, especially a small space.
Since we moved last year and the girls got a fairly large room each, they decided that the unit was too babyish for them apparently! However when I tried to give the unit away to a friend, it seemed they weren't quite happy with that either, so the unit lives in our attic, filled with surplus toys that only occasionally make an appearance. It still looks as good as new and I will be happy to pass this onto a friend when the children let me. My girls do look after their toys and furniture in their rooms, and I am fortunate that we haven't ever had any issues of drawing or sticking things on furniture, but it has certainly been used well with (at one point) the majority of their toys stored in it, but despite this it still looks as good as new.
Not cheap at around £45 but well worth it, especially if storage in a child's bedroom is limited.
For young children, the unit is a perfect height at around 60cm tall.
