When I bought the Peppa Pig 6 Bin Storage Unit (check out my review on that), I decided to get my daughter something to keep her books in, as she had a few books, but I didn't have a specific place to store them. I had a quick look online and saw that Worlds Apart made a bookcase in the same style as the Peppa Pig storage unit, I thought that would fit in perfectly with her room decor, so I decided to buy it.
==What is it?==
The Peppa Pig Sling Bookcase, is an attractive looking storage unit for your children's books. The two side panels are made of MDF and have a picture of Peppa Pig reading a book outside in the sunshine, and the sling storage compartments are canvas and are bright pink in colour. My daughters bookcase has 20 books in it and there is still room for at least another 10-15. The whole thing comes flat packed and includes 2 x side panels, 1 canvas sling, 5 x poles, 1 x supporting beam and 6 screws.
Dimensions - ( Height x Width x Depth) = 60 x 51 x 23, so it is the same height as the Peppa Pig 6 Bin Storage Unit.
Building was relatively simple with easy instructions to follow, although I did confused a little putting the sling compartments together, but I still managed to build the whole thing in 20 minutes. You slot the poles into the canvas sling, and slot the ends of these poles into the holes on the side panels and screw in place, the supporting beam then gets screwed in place on the bottom of the bookcase. I often find with flat packed furniture that some of the holes and the screws don't align up properly, but I have to say this wasn't the case here and the bookcase is still as sturdy as when I first put it together.
The sling compartments are on four levels, so I usually put the wider books in the top one, the next size down in the second from top level , the next size down in the second from bottom level, and the smaller books go in the bottom level, you might have to play about with what books you are going to put in what compartment though. My daughter really took to this bookcase and although she is only 2 and a half it has help her to put her books away tidily once she is finished with them.
I purchased this from amazon.co.uk for £32.99 and same as the toy storage unit, it is quite expensive and you are only really paying for the name. The quality is not brilliant for the price but it certainly does the job I need it to do, although when compared to some all wooden bookcases you get less for your money with this one.
This does the job I need it to do and it looks really nice in my daughters room, it is sturdy enough and sits alongside her toy storage unit very nicely. The bookcase is a perfect height for my daughter to be able to reach inside and grab any book she wants. The only downside of this is that it isn't very good for heavier books and I have had to dig out an old bookcase down from the Attic to accommodate these, which I am in the process of doing it up to the colour scheme of her room, the sling bookcase is good for paperbacks though. The thing that I don't like about the usual type of bookcase is that books are all different sizes and sometimes they jut out of the shelf, with this bookcase you don't get any of that, as the books fit nicely in each pocket. Despite needing another bookcase for the heavier books, I will still give this 5/5, it is an attractive looking bookcase and it is the perfect size for a 2-6 year old.
