We have recently been busy buying beds and decorating our daughters' bedrooms. My youngest daughter was still in her cot bed (now just a bed) and was rapidly outgrowing it so it was definitely time for something new. As her bedroom is not huge, I wanted something which had some extra storage as well as a bit of a wow factor. I started looking at cabin beds and, having carried out a search on Amazon, came across the Furniture Imports Pine mid sleeper cabin bed. On the photograph it looked very attractive and also as it had a pull out desk, book case and chest of drawers it was definitely going to provide a solution to our storage problem.
The bed was being sold through Amazon Marketplace by a company called Centurion Pine. It also had a very pleasant price tag as it was being sold for only £375. The normal RRP is actually £599 so this was a tremendous discount. Do be aware though that this is the price without the mattress and you do have to pay extra for that. We bought ours through the same company but of course you don't have to. It was great buying this through Centurion Pine as well because it arrived within three days of placing the order which I thought was fantastic service.
The dimensions of the bed are H132CM X W203CM X D95CM. However, when the desk is pulled wide the depth is 202cm so you do need to bear that in mind. We had to rethink where we were going to position the bed because of this because if there is not space to pull the desk wide it cannot be used properly. Although it is quite a big bed it does not swamp our daughter's small room at all and in fact I think that it looks quite cute. The pine is also very good quality with a good finish.
One of the disadvantages with this bed is that you do have to assemble it yourself. Having said that though, this was the case with virtually every bed we looked at. I felt quite daunted by this as neither my husband nor I are exactly renowned for our DIY skills. However we were pleasantly surprised. Although the instructions seemed quite sparse they were very easy to follow and everything that we needed was included. You always dread that there's going to be a crucial bit missing! Also, all of the holes for the screws and dowels matched up so we did not encounter any huge problems.
I think that you definitely need two people to make the main frame of the bed. For the chest of drawers, desk and shelves my husband pretty much got on with them on his own. However it is probably best to have someone else in the house just to hold and steady bits when needed. It probably took my husband the best part of a day to put everything in the bed together. Although it was quite straightforward he did find it a bit tedious at times and was glad when it was finished.
The finished bed looks great and my daughter really loves it. All of the drawers open well and there is plenty of storage. The bed has a look of quality about it and friends have been surprised when I have told them how little we paid for it. Natalie loves climbing up the wooden steps to get into bed and once in she looks really snug. She has been in it for a week and has slept really well. I would definitely recommend this bed but do be prepared for a bit of hard work before it is ready to sleep in!
