'This place' said my husband 'is going to the dogs'. He was looking round our living room and he was quite right. The dogs in question are Rosie and Kia, our two Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They're only allowed on two pieces of furniture - the dog sofas as they're known - everything else is out-of-bounds. The sofas, one at each end of the long living area have suffered though. One Ridgeback nicely fills a two-seater sofa and the three-seater doesn't have much room for a human occupant when you get both of them in residence. They sprawl when they come in from the fields. The question is this: do you replace a perfectly good sofa just because the fixed upholstery is shabby (lets face it, you're not going to sell it for very much second hand), do you buy custom fitted covers, or do you have it fully re-upholstered? Following my experience with Plumbs Covers, I would say the answer is certainly, "It depends". The dependant factor is the quality of the original sofa frame, forget the upholstery for now. If it was originally a <£300/£400 job from a cheaper high street retailer, drop it like a hot potato and just buy a new one (preferably with washable covers this time) as it will cost more to have the fitted covers ...

We were in the position of contemplating buying a new three piece suite. However, we were seduced by the adverts in the national press in respect of Plumbs furniture covers and a money off sale. The re-covered furniture looked great in the glossy colourful adverts. The Home Consultant who visited showed us more lovely pictures of neatly covered furniture. However, the finished product turned out to be nothing like the pictures. Our covers do not fit properly and have to be adjusted to fit even to a reasonable degree, every few days. The re-adjustment procedure involves taking out and replacing lengths of foam - a quite tiring procedure. The covers appear ...
