'This place' said my husband 'is going to the dogs'. He was looking round our living room and he was quite right. The dogs in question are Rosie and Kia, our two Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They're only allowed on two pieces of furniture - the dog sofas as they're known - everything else is out-of-bounds. The sofas, one at each end of the long living area have suffered though. One Ridgeback nicely fills a two-seater sofa and the three-seater doesn't have much room for a human occupant when you get both of them in residence. They sprawl when they come in from the fields. They drool when they think of dinner. Well, I hope that's ... Read the complete review

I too was seduced by the, 'covers from £199,' blurb. Mine cost £800 plus 5 years ago for two settees and shrunk in the first wash at 30 degrees. Good as their word, they made me a new set of covers after umpteen assurances that these would definitely not shrink and if they did they would make me another set. I should have got it in writing, because 3 years later my new covers also shrunk in the first wash. And Plumbs reaction? You got it, they don't want to know. I have just come off the phone to Margaret Carter who mentioned several times that the fading was quite considerable (I wasn't concerned with the fading, what I WAS concerned with was the fact that my ... My friend had a rep around and ended up giving £90 cheque as a down payment. The next day she decided the £180 for just cusion covers was too much and range plumbs to cancel. They gave her the number for the salesman and said they could do nothing and that she would have to contact him. She rang and left a message for the saleman. After two days and no reply she range and left another message. The next day she rang plumbs again, they said not to worry as they hadnt started making anything. To cut a long story short after 3 weeks of phone calls and never hearing from the salesman my friend got a cheque minus £50 cancellation fee!!! She rang them and they ... Read the complete review

The question is this: do you replace a perfectly good sofa just because the fixed upholstery is shabby (lets face it, you're not going to sell it for very much second hand), do you buy custom fitted covers, or do you have it fully re-upholstered? Following my experience with Plumbs Covers, I would say the answer is certainly, "It depends". The dependant factor is the quality of the original sofa frame, forget the upholstery for now. If it was originally a <£300/£400 job from a cheaper high street retailer, drop it like a hot potato and just buy a new one (preferably with washable covers this time) as it will cost more to have the fitted covers ... Plumbs salesmen should not be invited into your home...........here's why. I emailed them a pic of my sofabed, giving measurements and requesting a rough idea of recovering it, using good material but something in the " half price"sales. I had to send 2 further emails before they replied that only a salesman could quote a price. The office clerk assured me that there were great bargains in their sales "plus an extra10% off sale prices". We booked an appointment, the salesman assuring us that they could offer a great price. He arrived with only 2 sample books but when asked to show us which samples were in the sale he waved a ... Read the complete review
