Advantages: for what?

Disadvantages: of what?

I too was seduced by the, 'covers from £199,' blurb. Mine cost £800 plus 5 years ago for two settees and shrunk in the first wash at 30 degrees. Good as their word, they made me a new set of covers after umpteen assurances that these would definitely not shrink and if they did they would make me another set. I should have got it in writing, because 3 years later my new covers also shrunk in the first wash. And Plumbs reaction? You got it, they don't want to know. I have just come off the phone to Margaret Carter who mentioned several times that the fading was quite considerable (I wasn't concerned with the fading, what I WAS concerned with was the fact that my covers were 4 inches too short all round.) I also suggested she didn't make too much noise about the fading either as that didn't say an awful good lot about their fabrics either. She was very quiet. I asked her how long their guarantee was, and was told 1 year. I YEAR IN WHICH TO GET YOUR COVERS WASHED GIRLS OR ELSE THEY DON'T WANT TO KNOW. So if you're a dirty devil like me, who has no animals or children and don't allow food on furniture or spills their tea like adults are unlikely to do, then wash your covers the day you receive them or PLUMBS will tell you they're out of guarantee. Guarantees are for fair wear and tear, not shrinkage. They insist their fabrics are tested thoroughly, so I must be a bad laundress. No-one else has had this trouble with that fabric of course. Only me. Wouldn't you just know it? She would not give me names and addresses of owners of this fabric because of some law, very handy that, I wouldn't mind someone asking me what I thought of my covers and Plumbs in particular, hence my writing this now. Incidentally, their service is shocking. I sent for an appointment and didn't hear from the rep for 3 months. He'd been ill but no-one saw fit to inform me. When he saw my covers he was horrified and said I had a case. He's very quiet at the moment. I was promised this Margaret Carter would call back and she didn't, so I called again and was left hanging on the phone for some minutes whereafter she reiterated the message left on my ansaphone that they would not be remaking my covers. What a ruddy cheek! SO DO NOT BELIEVE THE BLURB ladies and get a decent, private, little lady round the corner if you can, to make your covers. She might be dear, but she's more likely to get it right as she can pop round anytime to fit them well.
