This is a review of the Prague chest of drawers (4+2) in white which we bought from the Very online catalogue. I'm going to stick to the product only in this review and not my opinion of Very as it warrants its own (epic) review. To say I am unimpressed with this company would be an understatement but I'll stick to the drawers for now.
We chose the prague style around the fact that we wanted an over bed unit that fitted round the king size bed in our bedroom. Once we picked this we worked out what other furniture would fit in the room and the smaller drawers like this we could have a set each. They do make some larger drawers which we were going to have in the other bedroom but that fell through with the first order so we had a rethink and decided to furnish just one room for now as it was proving difficult to get what we wanted from the company.
In the first instance I liked a few of the colours but we wanted four different items and white was the only colour they were all available to order in. Had we known better we would have stopped before we started as some of the items were not in stock anyway and we have been trying to order the furniture since December and are still waiting for one item to arrive in March! I must add that whilst it is described as white they are actually a grey colour when they turn up, but I do actually like the antique white effect so fortunately that is OK with me.
We ended up sending back the first set of drawers we ordered as there was a faulty piece in the flat pack. This was helpfully marked by a cross to indicate it was faulty. The holes were drilled in wrong and we were offered discount on it if we kept it but we chose to return and reorder. I am still waiting on that set of drawers we reordered now.
In the mean time we constructed one of the two drawer sets we had ordered. It went together easily and I am pleased to say the drawers all roll in and out on runners nice and smoothly. The top two drawers are half sized and then the bottom four are larger but still not a massive size for keeping clothes folded.
Once I had lined the drawers with some beautiful paper I am ready to fill them with clothes. I want to keep them looking nice and new for as long as possible. I keep mine segmented to: top two -beauty items; big drawers: underwear, tops, jeans / trousers, nightwear. I have more than this but I do have some other drawers in the other room and wardrobe storage so I keep this to the things I wear often.
Dimensions: H 91.3, W 70, D 40 cm
RRP is £109 but they are currently listed at £80. We got 10 percent off ours for doing buy now pay later and also got cashback from topcashback website. They often have sales on their furniture so I'd wait for an offer before paying full price.
At the moment they are still new so all the cleaning I have had to do revolves around the fact that the cat jumps on these drawers to get to the window and he is often running straight in from the garden so they do get a bit grubby. A baby wipe has been gentle enough to moisten and remove the dirt without harming the drawers. They look as good as new after a wipe down and I would use a dampened cloth if baby wipes were not to hand.
I am quite pleased with the drawers. For veneered furniture they look nice and having everything from a matching set looks smart. I don't see this set of furniture being my 'forever set' but it will last me the few years that I need it. As buying expensive furniture is just not an option for us right now we are making do with what we can afford.
Aside from the fact that I would not recommend buying from Very as an organisation, I can report that I am happy with the drawers set from the Prague range and they do look nice in our bedroom. The catalogue do not accept returns once they are constructed (unless faulty) so if you are not satisfied with them, it's tough!
