This is a review of the Prague overbed unit in white we bought from Very, online catalogue. I will keep my views and opinions of Very separate from this review in that I intend to do a separate review on very and be warned, it is epic (and not good). However I will stick to the actual over bed unit in this review. What is it? The Prague overbed unit is something which after a lot of emailing I managed to establish with Very that it fitted around a king size bed. These are hard to find as they usually fit around doubles. You get a slim single wardrobe and three small drawers at each side, four generous cupboards overhead and a shelf just behind your head. Why overbed? We are not blessed with a lot of space in our master bedroom and having downsized a bit from our previous house to get in a better area with better schools, we have sacrificed the space but are struggling for places to stash all our belongings. This seemed to make the best use of the space in the room. Ironically we had over bed storage when we moved in but we knocked it down as it was really old fashioned. At least this set is more modern if not as solid as the set we destroyed. Construction The set arrived flat packed. You can pay an extra amount to have it assembled but we chose to do it ourselves as my husband is a whizz with flat pack assembly. I complement this with cups of tea and spare hands when needed and we usually end up with something achieved after a few hours. The overbed set came in many pieces and we immediately did the bits we could in the garage, eg drawers and sections. We carried all the pieces upstairs and assembled in a couple of hours. Good bits I think they are pretty solidly built for flat pack. They don't wobble and have stood my daughter rolling around on the shelf. I have got everything arranged inside and am pleased with the storage. The drawers are on runners which is good so they slide out easily. They are not suitable to store clothes in but OK for books and night time essentials like face wipes and any other stuff you don't want on show. The colour is described as white but it is actually quite grey in reality. I do like the antique colour effect but it wasn't what I was expecting. Bad bits? There is nowhere to put our alarm clock, the drawers are really small, the cats like to sit on the shelf and my daughter climbs up there so I don't dare put current reading on as she will shred it. The shelf makes the bed jut forward more than we thought so our space at the end of the bed is compromised by this. Under the shelf is just a big enclosed gap which is a total waste of space. I think I will keep spare duvets and pillows stuffed there in future. The catalogue says: Dimensions: H 201.2, W 234.5, D 52.5 cm Bedspace distance between the cupboards 161.5cms Height of middle shelf from the floor 104.5cms Colours: Beech-Effect, Espresso, Walnut-Effect, White. Price paid We ended up paying £269 for the unit although we were originally planning to buy it in a set of three with a wardrobe and set of drawers included. It ended up not being possible to buy what we wanted in the set of three and I needed the over bed unit to go with other furniture we have purchased in the range - we were intending to do two rooms with the prague range and have now settled for doing one room it has been such a problem dealing with Very. I also got cashback from topcashback website and 10 percent discount on the original order as we went for a buy now pay later deal. We could have paid straight away but decided that ten percent off was worth having in the long run. Final word I am disappointed that I ended up paying more for this unit as I couldn't get it in the set of three where it would have worked out better value for money. My dealings with Very have been awful, reducing me to tears at times which is definitely not good but I hate dealing with call centres. I just did not get from them what I wanted but we had started with it so had to finish it. I am pleased with the over bed unit but not delighted. It will probably only last a few years as it doesn't feel totally robust but it is quite cheap and I don't see it being our forever furniture but it will do for now. In conclusion, I think you get what you pay for with these units so don't expect a lot and you'll be pleasantly surprised!
