Advantages: versatile cooking temperatures, cooks most things better than conventional ovens.
Disadvantages: Very hot lid - not ideal with children about.
I have owned a Remoska now for about 3 years. The main thing that attracted me to looking for an electric mini oven was the fact that if you are cooking just one or 2 items in the oven at the moment then it will help to cut your energy bills. Also, when you are using the oven to cook for just one or 2 people on a regular basis then it doesnt make sense to put the oven on, so I use the mini oven instead.
I wouldnt say you can rely on a mini electric oven for everything - I still use the conventional fan assisted oven for Sunday roasts etc. Also, baking cakes is one of the weak points to the Remoska. I think that this is perhaps because it doesnt get hot enough at the start for cakes and pastry. Some puddings it does exceed expectation with is rice puddings and crumbles. Lakeland really do have a great product here that will last a long time and is reliable for cooking a variety of foods.
The Remoska cooks food through the lid. The lid is basically the heat source and so when you do remove the lid to stir your food it can be extremely hot. I cant say I have anything else negative to say about this product - many mini ovens have the base as the heat source. Also, there is just a simple on/off button, there are no temperature guages. Some may find this difficult for working out for how long to cook meat etc. and I would think some people wouldnt cook meat on it for this very reason. I dont find this a problem, however. According to Lakeland, which sells the product, the energy saving is up to 80% which is difficult for any homeowner to judge because obviously there are more than just the energy use from the cooker on your bill. I can say, though, that my energy bills have fallen, unfortunately not by 80% though!
One of my favourite things to cook on the Remoska has to be baked potatoes, a conventional oven cannot beat the Remoska for cooking spuds, and the amount of heat wasted in an oven for cooking a couple of potatoes is ridiculous. At around the £65 when I bought mine from Lakeland I would definately recommend it. Another point to make is that how many of you struggle at Christmas cooking all your various trimmings and the turkey all in the same oven and getting it all ready at the same time? The Remoska will certainly come in handy for that alone.
Summary: Great buy. Saves energy turning on the conventional oven to cook very little amounts of food.
