      The Grange Bedframe

When we moved home earlier last year we had saved up some money to spend on some nice new bedroom furniture with the intention that spending a little more money now would hopefully get us something that would last us for years and years to come. We both like big chunky wooden pieces of furniture so when we were out shopping the Grange range from the Sterling Furniture store really caught both of our attention. In the past we have bought quite a few products from Sterling and the service from beginning to end has always been impeccable. The store is light and airy while everything is well laid out and we were able to see all the bedroom furniture built up and on display, I always like to get the sense of how drawers open and how sturdy things feel before I think about spending so much money. I also think that since I was planning on spending quite a lot of money I wanted to feel like I was being given time and any questions or concerns I had were properly addressed and answered.

The bed frame itself is quite an unusual shade or stain that is on the wood, it isn't at all dark but it has a nice rich brownish colour to it. Sterling state that it is an oiled oak finish, which isn't surprising as the entire bed is made from European and American oak. It looks every bit as nice as you would imagine a natural oak product to look. I also find that the oak goes well with the majority of bedding and colour schemes that I have come across, but then personally I think that most wood furniture goes with nearly everything.

The bed has quite a high head board which I personally like because you can prop yourself up quite high on pillows comfortably for those special occasions such as the rare breakfast in bed. The head board and the bottom of the bed (outward facing) have the same square shaped pattern design. The headboard has a slightly indented square design, three large cut out shapes, which breaks up the wood and helps to add that bit more interest to it. The same pattern is also repeated on the bottom of the bed.

Sterling describes the bed as having a stylish farmhouse feel about it. However, whenever I look at it I don't think it looks rustic enough to be a farmhouse piece of furniture, I think it has a more modern twist to it than that. For those that need to know the dimensions according to Sterling's website are - 5 ft: H 110 x W 166 x D 220 cm - for the king size bed.

When it was delivered to us we did have some assembling to do. However, between my husband and I this was done in no time and didn't really require any specialist tools. From memory I believe that it took us less than an hour to get it all assembled and joined together, by far the worst part was taking all the wrapping off. We choose to build the bed as close to the spot as it would be placed as possible because after it is all together it is a heavy piece of furniture and we didn't want to lug it about more than necessary. This is definitely a two person job thou because there are bits that needed to be supported as screws are tightened. Neither my husband or myself are expert DIYers and I think that we did a pretty good job, personally I would say that this unlike some of the cheaper flat pack items I have bought in the past was simple and hassle free to assemble. The guidelines given were clear ad helpful.

When we were looking at it in the store I thought that perhaps it would be a bit small when it was set up in the room, I was assured it was definitely a king size bed and then with the chunky wooden frame made this larger than most typical king size beds. However, it was because the store is such a large high ceilinged space that made it look smaller in comparison, when this was unpacked in our new bedroom it looked great and a real feature. I have never again been worried that this might be too small for us and in our room it really is a nice size.

When we finally decided to purchase this bed frame along with some other things after going away and having lunch to make certain that was the one we wanted and have some time to talk between ourselves. The salesman wasn't pushy but was there when we wanted him and the whole ordering it and paying for it was straight forward and simple. However, we did have the special request that we were buying this before we had moved into our new house so we wanted to them to deliver it the Monday after we moved in, which would mean them holding onto it for slightly longer than it would usually take. They did this with no extra charge and everything went smoothly, we moved in on the Friday and by Monday we had all the bedroom furniture in place so we could thankfully stop sleeping on just a mattress on the floor. I think that if you typically order this it can take up to four weeks to get delivered.

As you might expect this was an expensive purchase we bought it as part of a bedroom set deal, which included some other matching items of bedroom furniture. If you were interested in buying this for yourself it has a typical recommended retail price of £999, but Sterling are currently selling it for £499 (same price for either a king size or double). For your money you do get a fabulous bed frame that feels heavy and sturdy while looking stylish and expensive. Sadly, the price does not include a mattress. This is available to buy online.

If you haven't noticed already I love the furniture we have from this range and therefore this gets a well earned five out of five stars from me. We have had this now for a little less than a year and I suspect that we will have it for many, many, many more years to come.

As a side note you can buy this online as well as in store and Sterling charge £59 for delivery but they will leave it in your desired room which is great because you don't have any heavy objects to shift around or carry up any stairs.
