“ Brand: Stompa / Type: Sofa Bed „
If you have read some of my other reviews you will know that my daughters have each moved into separate bedrooms which has resulted in painted walls, new beds and bedding etc. We looked at quite a few beds online and the bed that my older daughter fell in love with and just had to have was the Stompa Casa 2 Loft Bed with Sofa Bed & Desk. We bought it directly from the stompa-uk website and I have to confess that it cost a small fortune (for a bed) but hopefully it will last my daughter well into her teenage years.
As it is a loft bed that means that it is a high bed with a ladder attached and space underneath for a desk, a pull out sofa bed and some storage space. It really is every girl's dream and my daughter absolutely loves it. It is quite imposing though so you do need a reasonably sized room for it. When we first put it up, I was a bit concerned that it might swamp Rachel's bedroom but actually it fits the space very well.
When the bed arrives, it comes flat packed so you have to be prepared to build it yourselves. As there were about ten different boxes it did look pretty daunting and also likely to be very time consuming. There were also about ten pages of instructions which again made me wonder what we had let ourselves in for? As it turned out it was a lot more straightforward that I thought it would be and the comprehensive instructions were excellent for breaking down the process step by step. It probably took my husband (who is not the world's greatest handyman by any stretch of the imagination) the best part of a day with me lending a hand as and when I was needed. There are moments when having to people is virtually essential but probably not all of the time.
IN the end I think my husband was very pleased with his efforts and the bed looks great. Everything that was needed was there and all the holes for screws and dowels etc were in the right place. It does look and feel like it is extremely good quality too.
The bed is a fabulous design too. It is mainly white wood and Rachel's bed has some blue panels and steps although there are other options. The white desk fits well into one corner under the bed but there is no chair with it. There is also a chair with cushions provided (ours are blue) and this ingeniously slides out to make a second bed which is ideal for sleepovers. Also next to the seat there is a small storage box and a low table. All in all the design is great and the whole things looks very special. Rachel loves it and is very happy to go to bed these days. She also tells me that it is very comfortable and although it is high she has plenty of space between her head and the ceiling. My only gripe (which is about this type of bed in general rather than this one in particular) is the fact that it is so difficult to make and to clean the sheets. I just find it so difficult to climb up there to do it. As Rachel has no trouble though, I shall just have to train her up to do it instead!
As I mentioned earlier we did pay quite a lot for this bed but you do get a lot for the money and it is wonderful quality. We bought it from
and the actual price we paid (which did not include the mattress) was £828.27 which was reduced from £1112.67. Was it worth that amount? I'm not sure but we couldn't find anything else similar and Rachel's face was a picture when she saw it all made up in her room. I might also add that there are other beds in the Casa range that are even more expensive.
So we are very pleased with this bed and I would recommend it although possibly wait for sales. Also make sure that it is exactly what your child wants because, at that price, it will need to last them until they are at least twenty!!
