Having moved into a brand new house in November that is stylish unlike my last home I have slowly been trying to buy things that are just as stylish and suit my home and tastes well. I have been after a 'nice' table and chairs for ages for me and my twins to sit together at. Even though I already had one I wanted one a bit more modern that would suit my black and silver kitchen. Having 2 year old twins I needed one that would be quite safe, sturdy, not mark all that easy really as they are quite heavy handed and rough yet look good at the same time, I also didn't want to break the bank so about £100 was going to be my budget!
I browsed in argos first and spotted my perfect table, the Turin Black Table and Four Chairs which would cost me £99.99! If buying this table you can either pick it up in store if you drive or have a car or have it delivered if you are willing to pay the delivery charge and wait for it. The delivery charge is just under £6, but for people like myself who have no way of getting large and heavy packages home it's not bad.
A small picture of the table and chairs set is shown in the argos catalogue, and online to - so you do have the option of ordering or reserving online as well. It looked perfect, black table top and chair seats and the frames a modern silver. The picture you find in the catalogue or online is the one pictured above so you get a pretty clear idea of what it's going to look like for real!
If looking at this table there is a brief description of detail about it,
Size of table (L)120, (W)75, (H)75cm.
Size of chair (H)85, (W)43, (D)46cm.
*The measurements meant nothing to me but they could be useful for people trying to find a table to fit into a certain sized space etc.
Silver finish metal frame with black table top. 4 chairs with silver colour frames and black finish seat pads.
*You can see this in the photo provided in the catalogue or online.
Weight of table 18.7kg.
Weight of each chair 4.8kg.
2 person self assembly.
*I can perhaps see why they would state this but I did put it together fine on my own with little to no struggle so don't totally agree.
My table was delivered - late may I add in two seperate boxes, the table in one and the 4 chairs in the other - obviously not together which left me the run task of putting it together.
I began with the table as it was the largest and heaviest box, although not to heavy to handle. I ripped the cardboard open with the box laying flat as the table top is the heaviest part and I knew I wasn't going to be able to lift it out of it's tall box. Included in the table box is the black table top, 4 silver frame pieces, 4 silver legs, a bag of screws and an alan key as well as a sheet of instructions. The instructions advise you to lay the table top down flat whilst attaching the frame, which if you ask me is common sense anyway otherwise you'll never get a sturdy table. Each screw is marked by a letter and the instructions tell you to screw each piece to the table with a certain lettered screw making it easy to understand and follow. Pictures are drawn to give you an example of how things should look like and although they are just drawn they are quite clear and simple to follow.
Each piece of the frame I attached tight, yet not tightened fully to begin with until I had every piece of the silver frame and each metal leg attached. Once all attached loosely but knowing they were in the correct places and fitted right I screwed each screw in until they were tight and secure and the frame or legs couldn't be moved. This task took me about an hour to complete by myself and it was only when the table had to be turned onto it's legs did I need another person to help as it is a bit weighty and the legs make it hard to lift up on your own to turn it over. Once turned over it was a strong, sturdy and very stylish table that didn't shake nor wobble.
It was in fact the chairs which took me the longest as they were a bit more fiddly when it came to attaching the seat of the chair. Trying to hold the seat on and screw it in tightly on my own was a little awkward as the seat kept moving and the screws became loose but after mastering the first chair - after 3 quarters of an hour I must add the other three chairs were a breeze. They are now stylish, sleek chairs which match the table perfectly and the whole set compliments my kitchen lovely. The table top is a lovely material, hardwearing and has already took alot of bumps and knocks from my 2 year old twins without marking - touch wood! The table and the chairs are, thanks to it's rectangular shape quite compact and could fit into a few spaces unlike circle tables which I find quite awkward to find a place for. The table is easy to keep clean and overall I'm extremely pleased with it. I'd reccomend it to anybody, you can even buy it with a pine table top and pine chair seats so if the black and silver isn't your thing or it doesn't suit your kitchen or dining room then that could be your match. I think the price is reasonable and it is well worth the money. Theres just one downside and thats the amount of packaging it comes with, the huge boxes and the plastic bags, every single piece is placed in a bag and tied up, meaning a full bin afterwards but apart from this it's pretty easy to put together on your own, meaning it would be a breeze with more than one person and it looks smart and stylish to.
