“ Brand: Argos / Type: Storage Unit „
After reading my title, you may be wondering what on earth a world famous expert on education and child development and bedroom furniture have in common. Actually there is some connection. Maria Montessori believed in providing furnishings at a child's level. When ever possible, a child's possessions should be stored in easy reach and in ways that make it easy for children to find what they want, thus increasing their ability to act independently. I did keep this in mind with the layout of my sons room.
These shelves measure 60cm high, 60 cm wide, and almost 30cm in depth. We use these on the floor between two similar units with two small doors each. This means everything is within easy reach, and also easy view. My son absolutely loves these, and loves having all of his toys on shelves where he can easily find whatever he wants. I love that he no longer dumps a whole toy box to find something that might or might not be at the bottom. My two sons share their toys and so many of the older boys toys are also stored away in his brother's room and they freely play in either room, not yet having reached the age of wanting any privacy. Both boys really like the now clean and clear floor to play, and the extra room these have given them.
As a parent , I love the fact that the room stays much cleaner and I am not being asked to help hunt for nearly so many lost toys!
Although these are perfect for children, I believe they could be mounted on the wall for a more adult look as well. Unfortunately, we bought so much new furniture at the time, I am not 100% certain if this came with wall mounts, but I believe it did. I think the basic white design of these units would make it easy to fit them into many different types of decor. I could even see putting some of these, with the matching cabinets in a bathroom if you had room. It would make a very handy way to store towels and toiletries.
These did come in flat pack, and required assembly, but this was very quick and easy. It took my husband under 20 minutes without a single curse word. I tend to measure the level of difficulty in assembly of an item by the amount of profanity coming from the room. I was surprised by the weight of these. They really do feel like a very thick and good quality wood. I also think the finish id of excellent quality, very thick and unlikely to chip, as well as being very easy to clean.
These currently cost £29.99 from Argos, but they have a special offer where if you buy two you get one free. They have a nice variety in this range, including the pink and white storage cubes I reviewed earlier, blue and white, or all white models.
I absolutely love these units and so do the children, so I am happy to give them 5 stars, and my full recommendation for anyone seeking more storage space after Christmas.
