I was getting rather Fed up of having bath towels stored in my bedroom which is rather limited on space as it is and seen as we have a rather large bathroom I started looking around for a nice piece of furniture to go in there that I could put all the bath and hand towels in to store them neatly out of sight.
I was quite shocked to find that there isn't really much of a wide choice of bathroom furniture in white as it all seems to be the wicker style stuff which wasn't what I wanted as I wanted something to double as a seat for drying the children on when they got out of the bath.
I spotted this reduced in a sale for £35-99 which I have to say I really do think is rather expensive for such a small piece of furniture that is not even real wood but it had to be done so I parted with my cash online and waited for it to be delivered.
With it being a small piece of light furniture I was hoping it would come assembled but it didn't, it was flat packed in a small box. The instructions to assemble it were really simple, I had to push a few pieces of wooden dowl in and turn a few screws and it was all together looking rather nice.
I am really happy with the look of the piece of furniture and it is a bit wider than I was expecting it to be so holds more than I thought it would which is great and although it is designed as a seat also I wouldn't risk sitting on it my self as the lid is only held on by two metal push pins and a hinge so not very strong at all and for the price I don't want to risk breaking it.
It is designed to be a laundry basket not a storage box like I have used it for but in my house it would be full each day as I don't think it would hold more than three changes of clothes so would be no use for us but is a great storage box.
This is another example of Dooyoo being lethal for making you want things... I bought this new laundry box as a result of reading ClaireM78's review. I saw it and liked it and wanted it and didn't have the patience to wait for the sale. Under the pretext of buying the MIL's birthday present I sent my husband to pick up her present from Argos and told him to get this whilst he was going!
The box is H58, W55, D35cm. It comes flat packed and took my husband around 20 minutes to assemble but he is a whizz at flat pack so it may take a novice a little bit longer. It has a white finish but is not high quality wood as you would expect for the price, it is still a nice looking item though and multi functional as a laundry basket and seat. The lid flips up easily to hold the laundry and then back down to act as a seat. You can rest it open for emptying too which is handy as it would irritate me if the lid fell closed on you when you are pulling everything out. Seat wise, it is easily wide enough for me to sit on (and my bum is, ahem, generous) but a little hard so not one you would use for a long time! It is also worth noting that Argos have photo shopped the screws out of their photos (you can see them on another photo on their website but not on the one listed above) so you can see the fastenings on the side of the unit in real life.
I paid the top price of £34.99 for this but wanted it right now and didn't want to wait but I think it will be reduced at certain times of the year if you keep your eye on it.
I had two thought as to where this hamper would go. We had owned a fabric laundry hamper on a metal frame for over ten years now which was still functioning very well but with two kids now in the family, I needed more capacity and wanted something a little more classy. I thought this could either go in one of the kids' bedrooms (one room has white furniture) or even better, I had a space I wanted it to fit in the bathroom. It fit well in the bathroom so I moved the fabric old one into one of the bedrooms behind the door as it's ideal for when I strip the beds and don't want to do the laundry straight away.
I love this laundry hamper, it looks really nice in our white bathroom and has enough capacity to keep a few days' worth of washing in there. The look is nice and there are other items from Argos that match this that I am tempted to buy like a wooden storage box... the urge to buy never seems to leave me somehow!
Our unit has a small chip on the back of it which is not exactly noticible but we spotted it when constructing the unit. It's not bad enough for me to return it but I think it's worth checking over the parts if you buy this as quality is important when you've got to live with it! This works well in our bathroom and is an extra seat if sitting in the bathroom's your thing (?) but when you're supervising kids bathing we do spend a bit of time together as a family in the bathroom at the moment. It's big enough to serve as a useful hamper without being a giant space invader but some would prefer a bigger basket that comes to a higher level so I will give this hamper 4 out of 5 stars.
At the end of October last year my boyfriend and I moved into our first house. As we had both previously been renting there were quite a few items that we needed to get for our new home and a laundry basket was one of them. I had had a fabric laundry basket previously which lived in a cupboard but as we didn't have that much closed storage space in our new home we wanted to get a laundry basket that looked nice and fit with the rest of the room. We decided that the laundry basket would live in the bathroom and that is currently decorated in white and pale yellow so I searched for a nice wide wooden (or wood effect) laundry basket and found this one at Argos. I really liked the look of it and overall it had good reviews on the Argos site (plus it was in the sale when I saw it!) so I bought this one.
This fits the bill in that it looks like it is made out of wood although it is actually made out of mdf or something similar, but that is fine and really what I would expect for the price. I do think that it looks quite classy in our bathroom so I am happy with it on a visual perspective.
The measurements are H58 x W55 x D35cm and its capacity is 55 litres. In reality although it does look fairly small I think it does quite hold a lot, definitely at least enough for 2 full loads in the washing machine which is more than enough because once it gets that full we really should be putting some washing on!
The lid is on hinges and when you open it you don't have to hold it open which I think is quite useful as if you are trying to get a load of washing out you really want both hands rather than having to try and scoop the clothes out with one hand whilst using the other to hold the lid open. Obviously this does mean you have to actually close it when you are done rather than the lid falling back down. Personally I have not yet found the need for a seat in my bathroom but this box can, as the name suggests, be used as a seat when closed.
When you purchase this product it does come as flat packed. At first we looked at it and thought 'how hard can this be?' as there are not that many pieces to it but actually it was a bit more tricky than we first thought. The instructions are pretty worthless as they don't actually make sense and they refer to the pieces as though they are labelled, which they were not in our case. Interestingly when I was searching Dooyou for this product I saw that someone else had written a review on this item quite a while back and they had exactly the same problem as we did, namely that we built the box and then realised when trying to attach the final piece that actually we had one of the pieces in the wrong position resulting in the bottom falling out, so had to take it all apart and start again - cue much frustration from my boyfriend, as obviously when I say 'we built the box' I mean he built it and I watched! Anyway, second time around we did get it right and hopefully we will never need to take it apart again.
I am very pleased with this product as I think it looks nice and it does exactly what we need it to do. I think the instructions could do with a rewrite but we got there in the end and it wasn't rocket science. This product is currently on sale at Argos for £34.99 (product code 832/5299) but when we purchased it we paid about £24 although to be honest I am so pleased with it that I would say it is worth the full price. I would definitely recommend this product and am just deducting one star because of the rubbish instructions.
This is a white-painted laundry hamper in the style of a Monks Bench. I am unsure what it is actually made of, but likely MDF. It holds approximately 5.5 litres, and its dimensions are: (H)55, (W)55, (D)35cm. It is delivered in a reasonable sized box for self-assembly and can be put together by one person. It is available from Argos Extra and is currently £29.39, plus delivery.
Overall, my impression is that it is a lovely little piece of furniture and was exactly what I was looking for. I was a little concerned about the price considering it is essentially a laundry basket, but I felt I needed to spend extra to get an item of quality and could be long-lasting. I am glad to have bought the piece.
However, while on one level construction was quite simple (there is no glue necessary), there were one or two things that niggled. Firstly, it has a white painted finish. This does seem to scratch quite easily so you have to be very careful with any screws/screwdriver etc. during construction. Secondly, I did find that the diagrams on the instructions were poor and inaccurate. This may not be an issue for others, but my problem arose from the fact that the instructions claimed the pieces would be labelled, mine weren't. So I had to follow the instructions based on the small diagrams. At one point, I actually had to rebuild the box because I had the right piece but as a result of the inaccuracies of the diagram I had that particular part in the incorrect position, which meant the entire thing did not work - the bottom of the box fell out.
Despite this, I do like the piece of furniture and would rate it at least 4 out of 5. However, I do feel I need to lower the overall rating because the instructions, for me, let it down. Alone, they get 2 out of 5.
Laundry Hamper. Holds 5.5 Litres. Size (H)55, (W)55, (D)35cm.
