We have a Wilko store locally which tends to be our first port of call for household related items as they stock a wide range of products for the home at reasonable prices. It should be no surprise that most of our toy boxes (of which we have many) were purchased from Wilkos.
Wilko sell a range of lidded plastic storage boxes with this being the largest size available, with an impressive 80 litre capacity. We also own a slightly smaller version, which no longer has the lid, thanks to one of the boy's exploits, and a third box which contains a selection of old toys up in the loft. All of these boxes have served 'active service' at some point or other as the boys' toys seemed to breed overnight.
This particular box is very well designed with a lid that clips securely into position, keeping the contents clean, dry and free from dust. The box comes in a range of colours, so can be coordinated with bedroom or living room colour schemes, although the Wilko website only shows them with a totally clear box section and coloured lids. The coloured versions are also transparent which is always useful as it gives a clear view of the contents.
An advantage of this design is that the lidded boxes can be stacked on top of each other which is great for longer term storage in sheds or garages. It's perhaps not so practical for items that are needed regularly as the filled boxes can be pretty heavy and not something that you would want to be constantly lifting.
The stated 80 litre capacity translates into a generous storage box. This copes with a huge quantity of toys and games although sometimes the contents have been known to rise up so far that the lid can't be used.
The plastic lid is actually quite brittle and will snap or crack quite easily, especially if misappropriated for unintended purposes. When intact, the lid remains in position and there are convenient indents under each side, making it easier to carry the box about if necessary. The only noticeable disadvantage with this design of lidded box is that the lid contains ridges and these can collect dirt and dust if stored in a location such as a shed or outhouse.
Even at full price, these boxes are good value and, whilst they might not win any design awards, are a practical and functional storage solution suitable for most spaces.
I recently moved into a shared accommodation and because I only have one room to fit all my things, I really needed to find some storage ideas and I found this on sale at wilkinson's for just under thirteen pounds. It felt sturdy and the plastic was pretty tough. I purchased it and bought it home and love it. In fact, I went back to get another one. It holds all my toiletries, my hair appliances, some folded clothes and other random things nicely. I have to say I did dump a lot in the draws because I had to clear my room but it kept its shape, it didn't collapse on me or anything. It really played a major role in de cluttering my room. I also like that it doesn't get scratched, so a quick wipe down and its always looking as good as new.
I like that it has four draws that hold a lot. The draws slide in and out easily, for thirteen pounds I really can't complain. I would recommend this to anyone who is struggling with storage. It isn't the most prettiest thing, but the fact that its going to last me a good few years, if not more, Is well worth it!
Back at my mum's house, I have a lot of stuff. Between now living with my boyfriend out of term time and Nottingham during term time, I have stuff all over the place. My bedroom at my mum's house was beginning to look like a bomb had hit it so we decided some new storage was in order.
Wilkinsons is always a first point of call when it comes to things like this as they are generally cheap and worth what you pay for them. This large storage unit comes in two colour options; black and silver and they normally cost £20 although they are currently on offer for £15 which makes them great value for money. The storage unit is really big (84cm high) so you would definitely need a car to get this home easily. I, however, had to carry it home with my mum which luckily was only a 10 minute walk.
Both the frame and the drawers of this storage unit are made from plastic so it doesn't look like the nicest thing in the world. The plastic is very cheap looking but I didn't mind this too much. I bought this as a quick and simple storage solution and that is exactly what it is. The drawers are quite large and deep (D38cm and W39cm) so I knew that it would hold a lot of my things. The drawers don't have proper handles though and instead have a moulded plastic edge which you use to pull the drawers out. There are also no runners to slide these drawers back in and instead you just push them back into the holes. The drawers do stay in place well though even without runners.
At the minute, my storage unit is filled with older uni work and stationary mostly. I am a bit of a stationary hoarder and tend to always have loads of books of paper, pens etc. so this is the perfect place to keep them. Even with all of the drawers having things in them, I can still pick up the whole unit as it is nice and lightweight. The drawers will hold much larger items than what I use this for so I also think it would be great for garages, kitchens or bathrooms for when you want to keep things neat and tidy.
Overall, although this isn't too pretty, it is a great storage unit and one I would happily buy again.
Being an art student I need all the storage I can get or else they'll be paint and pencils forming the floor in my room. I didn't have a lot of money to spend on storage furniture so a wooden unit was out of the option for me, luckily I found this product in Wilkinson. The storage unit is available in two different sizes, one with three stacked drawers and the other with four. I purchased the three drawer unit as it fit snugly under one of my shelving units in my room and the four was too big, however seeing as the four was only £5 more than the three at £20, if I had the space I would have gotten it.
DESIGN AND EASE OF USE
Visually this product isn't very attractive and from what I have experienced I would say that it was designed solely for basic use. The colours used are okay but nothing flashy, the black rim around the see through drawers make the product blend in reasonably with any room, meaning it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. However if I had more money I would have looked around for a drawer set which is more attractive, although I really shouldn't complain too much for just £15.
The drawers are already put together when you buy them so there is no need to worry if you're not good at DIY, however if you want the unit to be mobile you will need to screw in the supplied wheels by yourself. I liked this aspect of the product because it meant I could just take it home and start filling it without wasting too much time trying to put it together.
There are indents in the three trays which create a sort of rim or handle at the top, this is a very nifty design feature as it makes pulling the trays out, even when they're full to the brim, effortless. The indent is also very generous and is designed with all hand shapes in mind so even the chubbiest to longest of hands will be able to use this product comfortably.
-Very cheap price which makes the product available for a vast variety of people to purchase.
-Easy to access the items inside the unit due to the good handle design
-Surprisingly strong and sturdy for only plastic
-Comes with wheels to make it easy to move around
-See through drawers remove the privacy factor of the unit and can be a pain if you have guests and the inside of the drawers are untidy.
-Not very visually pleasing!
I've had this unit for nearly a year now and it's still all in one piece however some of my inks have stained the see through drawers making them look very tired on from the outside. I've not had and major problems with this product and I would probably buy again if they changed the colours of the unit making it more private and neat.
Would I recommend?
I would recommend this product to someone who needs a quick and cheap solution to storing misc items at home. I wouldn't expect anything spectacular, what you get is what you see. This product is great for a temporary solution until you find a better unit to fit your home perfectly.
Me and Marc decided to buy this a few months ago when we first moved in together as we were in need of a bit of extra storage in our garage as the car takes up 99% of the room. We keep the dog leads, bowls and tins of food in this as well as our wellies, so I guess this storage unit is our storage space for all of the dog's bits and bobs - it keeps them out of the way though and keeps them all in one place. We've also got various tools in the bottom drawer and at one point one of the drawers was full of long life milk, lol.
This can be used to store anything and as the drawers are so large and sturdy it provides a lot of extra storage space. This storage unit is from Wilkinson's own range of office furniture, although obviously it can be used to store whatever you like, not specifically office equiptment. It's priced at £20.00 but we managed to get ours on offer for £15.00, which I think is quite expensive for a basic plastic unit however it does have a very large capacity and it's very durable, so I do think that it's worth it.
There are two colours available; black or silver. We got the black as the silver looked quite tacky in my opinion. The design isn't great and it does look quite cheap, which I think is mainly due to the basic design and transparent plastic drawers. The unit has four drawers which can be removed which I find handy for when I need to re-arrange the contents, especially when I am filling the drawer with cans of dog food. The drawer when full needs to be supported underneath when it's opened more than half way else it looks like it might fall out, though it never has!
The drawers don't have proper handles, just a moulded bit of plastic near the top which you grip and pull to open the drawers. There are no runners, the drawers simply slot in to the moulded sides of the unit. The drawers are tinted white and the contents can clearly be seen meaning it can look a little messy, which I don't mind as we keep ours out of the way in the garage. The drawers are made of thick, sturdy plastic which is strong and durable.
Each drawer has a large capacity both length, width and depth wise and I am able to fit in loads of stuff including twelve cans of dog food in one drawer and I can fit another twelve in if I stack them on top of each other and the drawers are strong enough to hold the weight without breaking or anything. The unit itself is made of plastic. It has wheels on the front which I find handy and it's very lightweight when the drawers are taken out, meaning it's very easy to move from room to room if needed.
Although it is lightweight it is not at all flimsy. The unit seems to attract dust really quickly, but as it's made of plastic it can be wiped down quickly and easily with a wet wipe or damp cloth. We've had ours for a few months now and we've already got loads of use out of it and it's in great condition. It's a really handy unit with an impressive capacity and it's easy to keep clean. It's not very stylish, but it's not unattractive either in my opinion. Overall, I highly recommend this storage unit - it's sturdy and very good value for money.
Earlier this year, my fella and I finally got around to decorating our bathroom . We plastered, sanded and painted, and the bathroom looked lovely and tidy - until it came to putting back all the various toiletries, of which I have rather a lot. My mum works for Boots, so she's often coming home with goodies she's picked up in the staff shop and giving me some . Add to that my own inability to pass up any kind of special offer on toiletries, and the need for some bathroom storage was desperate .
So, I picked up one of these units from Wilkos . There are actually two sizes available - one with three drawers for around £15, and one with four drawers costing £20. I opted for the larger unit.
The one above appears to be black, with clear drawers. Mine was actually a more attractive silver grey in colour, but did have the same silver drawers. This unit is ready assembled on the shelves, so bear in mind when purchasing that a car might be handy for getting it home, or you can order online from the website for around a £5 delivery charge .
The unit is 84 cm high, and is very lightweight, at least when empty, allowing it to be easily moved about to see where it will fit . Despite being so light, the construction of the unit is very solid, and doesn't seem like it would fall apart without an awful lot of abuse first . The drawers have handy niches to make pulling them out easier, and they slide and and out silently and easily . The clear drawer fronts make it easy for me to see what is in each drawer before opening, so organising my bathroom is easy - one drawer for towels, one for my daughters bath toys, one for toiletries, and one for spare bog rolls .
My bathroom is now tidy, organised, and free of clutter. The drawer unit is perhaps not the most attractive looking thing in the world, but is very practical, and at £20, I feel it is excellent value for money, and in fact plan on buying more of these for storage to help me organise my understairs cupboard .
Recommended, with four stars . One off for the fact that this could never be described as pretty .
I recently moved into a new house with some mates from uni and whilst my new bedroom is bigger than my last one it's not exactly overflowing with storage! This isn't good for a girl with as many clothes, shoes and cosmetics etc as me. I instantly started looking around for some storage whether it be boxes or drawers or basically whatever's cheapest, but i struggled to find anything affordable until i went into my local wilko's (not a store i personally would have associated with furniture) and saw this plastic 4 drawer storage unit for £12, i was so impressed i bought 2!
The storage unit is made of silver plastic around the edge and has 4 decent sized clear plastic drawers. There's no assembly involved as the drawers are ready made up all you have to do is put the wheels on the bottom and although they don't come with instructions this is really easy to do.
The only negative thing about these drawers is that as I said the drawers are a clear plastic which means you can see everything you put in there so if you're planning on just shoving a load of junk in there to make a room look tidier then these probably aren't for you! However, i have seen alot of wooden chest of drawers in Ikea that also have clear plastic on them so in that respect it could be a fashion thing that they are like that.
The drawers are of a good height to have as a bedside table etc, i personally have them at the end of my bed with my TV on top so they are the perfect height to lie and watch TV in bed. Although i use mine in my bedroom i think they would also be suitable in other rooms such as a study or even a living room. If you are looking for a cheap yet stylish way of getting extra storage in your home then these drawers are perfect, i would definitely recommend.
