Although my 3 year old twin sons have a play room full of toys and toyboxes, I recently done their bedroom out Toy Story style and wanted a nice looking yet practical toy box for their bedroom too, to be able to keep some of their 'nice' Toy Story toys in.
I browsed a few sites and this particular storage box kept popping up on most sites including Tesco, Amazon and Argos. Being a Toy Story box I had to purchase it as I knew it would fit perfectly within there bedroom once done.
The box costs roughly £30 - £40 depending on where you buy it from, but is in my opinion worth this! Most of my twins toyboxes are plastic and they get snapped, cracked and broke within days most of the time, this box however is a lot more sturdy than your typical plastic toy box and looks good too.
On all the websites I seen the box on it was clearly described as a MDF toybox, meaning it is made by a type of wood, so I knew it was going to be a bit more reliable than some of their other toy boxes.
The box does come flat packed, however putting it together took just minutes, using the easy to follow instructions provided as well as all of the fittings to ensure the box was secure and sturdy. Inside the box came the box in single pieces, including the 2 sides, the back, the base and the lid, a sealed bag of fittings and instructions .. so really not that scary lol! There is a picture on the box of the toy box so whilst putting it together you can see if you are on the right track and putting the right coloured boards in the correct places just in case you are still unsure. Amazon describes the assembly of this toy box as the 't-bolt assembly system' meaning the pieces do just slot together and the fittings provided simple haved to be placed into the designated holes in the toy box boards and then turned with the alan key to ensure they are tight and secure holding the pieces in place. Each piece of the toybox isn't overly heavy really and even when the box is put together it is still fairly light so if you do have to move it about places it's not that difficult, until it's full of toys of course. However it is a fantastic size and quite bulky to pick up and manouvre around. The size of the box did surprise me as I wasn't expecting it to be that big but once together it is quite wide, lengthy and deep too so can fit either a lot of little toys innit or a few bigger toys which has been fantastic. The lid is another piece of mdf board, nothing fancy to it is just sits on top of the box, which seeing as this box is meant to be suitable for children aged 18 months plus I think is a bit silly. An 18 month old child would not be able to pick the lid up safely themselves and if they were to drop it is quite weighty and would hurt, my 3 year olds struggle with it a little now.
Apart from the lid being a little unpractical really the box is fantastic. It's a brilliant size and fits plenty of toys innit. It looks great featuring some of the Toy Story characters, and you can also purchase other Worlds Apart Toy Story MDF furniture to compliment each other if need be, such as the desk and stool. It really is easy to put together single handedly and takes just 10 minutes to do so. It is strong and sturdy, however as it is mdf it can be chipped if not too carely with it. I would reccomend this toybox to anybody looking for a storage box for their childrens toys, not only does it look good but it really is a decent quality, practical toy box!
